Good question. Generally, you can fill it out as early as January, 2007. Most people wait a little longer - until they get their taxes completed as tax information is requested on the FAFSA form. You can file it at any time...

A better question might be - when is the deadline. Some schools may have a deadline as early as January - check with the school's financial aid office. They often have financial aid application deadlines in the admissions package and on the school's website.

In general, the sooner you fill it out the better. If you wait too long, many financial aid programs will have given their money to other applicants who applied before you.

Do not file before Jan. 1 or it will be shredded. It is usually best to wait till your parents do their Income Tax. Check with your guidance counselor for deadlines for your state and try to file in February.

If you want to get it for next semester, you should fill it out before the end of this year.
