There are three stages to pass:
1. The first 1 or 2 days. Very hard. Must focus to your objective. Chew bubble gum or menthol drops.
2. After 1 week, you will think "Wow, I've really quit smoking!" Wrong! Do not let the euphoria win. Keep to your objective. In any case, do not think "Ok, I've quite smoking, so... I can smoke only one cygarette". That is very wrong, you will become a smoker again.
3. After 1 months, you 've really quit smoking.
I've managed to quit smoking 2 years ago, after the third try (first two tries ended in stage 2).
Good luck!

It took me about a month. The first day was the hardest. The second a little easier. The more time that passed, the easier it got. I still get an urge for one now & then (2 years later), but then remember, "Oh yeah, I quit smoking." The secret is, you only have to do without one cigarette. Just ask yourself --you can do that, can't you? OK, then, tell yourself just to do without this one --the next one. I quit cold turkey after chain-smoking 2-4 packs a day for 50 years, & it wasn't nearly as hard as people say.

The physical cravings are gone in 24-48 hrs. The rest is psychological. It takes that part of the brain about 2 weeks to get over wanting a cigarette. After all, it's all habit, from the motion of your hands to your face, to when you smoked ...ie, after a meal. Then your body starts to repair itself and after about 10 yrs, your lungs are healthy again.
Good luck

You've gotten good info and advice here.
The best advice I've gotten relates to the fact that the craving is transient and will pass. My friend advised I repeat to myself, "This craving will pass, whether or not I have this cigarette."
Good luck!

Ive quit plenty of times. I almost quit for about 10months, but started again last month. I quit again on Monday (today is friday) and i have ZERO cravening.
In my experences of quitting smoking a number of times i would say 2-3 days the cravings will stop. After 3 days you start to look at smoking totally disgusting and the smell really bothers you.
