If you eat meat (jerky is meat) then you're not a hypocrite...but you're also NOT a vegetarian. It's not hypocritical calling yourself a vegetarion, just incorrect.

you can do whatever you want to do.

being a strict vegetarian means not eating any meat, including beef jerky. but if you prefer to be a vegetarian most of the time, but give into temptation and have a piece of beef jerky now and then, there's nothing wrong with that. it doesn't necessarily mean you're a hypocrite. it just means you're human.

however, if you want to be very strict with yourself and your diet, then you might want to try to avoid the jerky.

Depends on your reasons for being a vegetarian.

If you are a vegetarian for health reasons, then a small amount of red meat won't have any noticeable effect on your health, so it's OK.

If you are a vegetarian for environmental reasons (you object to the fact that meat takes about 10 times more energy and space to produce than vegetables), then again, having a tiny amount of meat will have a negligible impact on the planet, so it's OK.

If you are vegetarian for ethical reasons (you consider animals individuals and think they have the right to life just like humans), then yes, you are a hypocrite.

I think eating BEEF jerky defeats the purpose of being a vegetarian. But it is pretty good.

Beef is beef no matter how you eat it. If you want to be a vegetarian don't eat Beef Products. If you want to eat Beef Jerky just go ahead...why do people really want to be vegetarians anyway?...I never understood...I enjoy my meat.

Who cares?! If you want it, that's you perogative - and your business. I don't think it's such a big deal, that you should then feel guilty for doing so. The sky is still there, and Chicken Little lived to make a movie.
