I have a long history of migraine - both regular and complicated migraine. Often I'll experience a funny (but now familiar) odor before a regular migraine. I also have visual symptoms. Bright flashing triangle or pennant shaped flashes that start at the periphery of my vision and get larger moving toward the center of my vision. It's usually followed by a "blind spot" that lasts about 15 - 20 minutes and then that's when the pain kicks in. It's called an Optic Migraine or Complicated Migraine. Am currently taking Norvasc for prevention and haven't had any visual disturbances or migraine pain since started the med. Hope that helps.

I get what another friend who gets the same thing calls "twinkles", a flashing of lights, as if everything light is surrounded by shimmering halos. I have heard of motorists getting this sensation and then a migraine by staring into oncoming headlights of cars.
I have asked opticians about it and learned it is normal.
If one "catches" it in time and goes into a dark room, one can stop the headache.

The little squirming worms that swim around the eyes, usually from the upper to the lower generally give me about ten minutes warning. If I am quick enough to take any aspirin type tablet it goes away before the headaches start.............

I get them too. They drift slowly right across my field of vision, causing huge blind spots.
I think I get them when I'm a bit dehydrated. Drink lots of fresh water. If you feel one coming on (blind spots and 'worms') drink plenty of water and take a headache tablet. Ibuprofen works really well for me. If you don't, the headache will start in about 20-30 minutes.
You're not alone!

I get flashing stars to start with then it looks like the bottom half of my vision is under water. Then I feel sick. I absolutely hate it. Haven't had them for a while. If you're getting it now get a ibruprofen down you and get to bed and sleep it off. I feel for you. It's not nice.

thanks for saying that dippydon, i thought it was just me who only saw half faces or objects, and then that would clear and be replaced by flashing wriggly worms on the peripheries. Several hours later I had a beauty of a migraine.
