Spicy food is so due to capsaicin in the chili or pepper used the more capsaicin the hotter. Yes you can burn out your taste buds and even scald your mouth, thankfully your mouth and tounge will heal in about 10 days until then things may be difficult to taste so stick to simply seasoned foods.
