Wise? No. Love is never wise. Love is madness.

If he can tolerate and respect your religion, and you can tollerate his, it's all good. The one thing you DONT want to do is convert to his. I know that would give your relationship more understanding, but that would KILL your parents.

If he asks you to convert to be w/ him, dump him. YOU certainly aren't asking something so drastic of him, why should he care?

As for parents, if they're very conservative, it won't be pretty, but if it's a very serious relationship, then don't worry about it. Parents usually come around for things like weddings! I would, however, make it clear to my parents that I had no intention of deserting my own customs and beliefs. And that the man I was dating understood that as well and was not making moves to convert me!

I am a Male and I have direct and personal experience with this issue.

Ultimately, you are the person that has to decide this.

These are some factors to consider.

If your friend is a Christian and you are Catholic, then you have some differences, but you still have much in common.

Should your friend be of a completely different religion, then there are cultural and religious issues to be faced...even in dating.

Some people will save...It is your life...what ever.

But, If your parents object strongly then you are faced with problems and issues that may be out of your control.

My former Partner was of a different religion then I was....It caused a Family feud that lasted for months. My Father almost did not attend the Wedding..... In the end, he attended the wedding and in time came to admire my partner and of course the children.

I chose to allow the children to be raised in my Partners Faith.

When people get into a relationship or marriage, it is a Family union, also.

You need to communicate with your Parents and discuss in detail their objections to another person's religion. They must object for a good reason.

In conclusion, you need to communicate your ideals and values to your parents. We live in an era of enlightenment and tolerance.

Good Luck to you,

Mav
