Having the ability to heal others, I am finding confusion however as this ability and drive to use it is at odds with my ability to reason in a scientific manner. If you were in my shoes, what would you do? Would you abandon the ability because it doesn't stack up scientifically? Or would you continue using, knowing that you are flying in the face of science and rational thinking on many levels?
I'm not interested in believing in the mystical or going woolly with either new age or religious thinking. I understand the placebo effect, and can say some successes were in part due to this. I'm not after an explanation-I won't get one.
Would you abandon it completely as it doesn't fit any reasonable scientific viewpoint?
Would you continue using it anyway, ignoring the gap that isn't filled by either faith or sound rational explanation?
Would you go in another direction?
Btw, Healing I do is never charged for. Life pays me back anything owing.

Thank you for the supporting answers.
I'm not interested in the skeptic debate so proving it is only important for the people I work on. So the student style critical thinking thing isn't what I need right now. Randi has a good cause but makes too much publicity for himself btw :-).
I've tested it of course, on many people now. No I don't keep documented scientific notes and evidence. Until recently didn't feel a need. I'm very wary of people's expectations and always find out if they are receiving proper medical care or are going to. They are told I do not diagnose and that what I do is in addition to their doctor's care only if such is needed. I have had a number of cures etc for various things. Works best on nervous system issues in particular. I've measured EEG/GSR and pulse/blood pressure changes in myself when using healing. Plenty of changes but without decent controls, worthless results. I won't abandon the ability just because skeptics exist btw :-). I'm skeptical of much too

In my spiritual journey, I've found science as my right hand. Many of the gaps have been fill by the new knowledge. Sometimes you have to believe in something to help you reach your goal. Keep them both somewhere down the road it will make sense.

I am assuming by not being able to accept your 'gift' scientifically, you mean that when you tested yourself, it didn't work? In that case, I'd say you probably are just imagining you have a gift. It doesn't matter that you don't charge - you may be making people think they have recovered when they really should have gone to the doctor.

If you are tested, and it works, go ahead and do it even if you can't find a reason that it works - but REALLY test yourself first. Better yet, have one of these groups test it for you - they have a lot of experience with that sort of thing.

I would go with my gut feeling. If you are doing good then there is a reason you are able to do this. Science can not explain ever thing there are things in life that can never be explained. Science is more about the fun of trying to find all the answers. As for a religion look at it as a gift from God ( which ever one you worship). The bottom line is if you can help people then you should. Don't worry about explaining it. If people expect you to explain it then they don't deserve your help.

You intuitively understand that people create their reality according to the nature of their beliefs. When you change their beliefs, you change their experience. You must end each healing with the explanation of the healing. The individual has the power to change his own beliefs, and to facilitate their own healing by utilizing the power of belief. You must wake them up to this power, and then empower them.

You sound like a reasonable guy, if you think there is some sort of ability there you owe it to yourself to explore it.

If it is a gift from God, use it.
Do not abuse it.
I believe it is wonderful you do not charge for a gift you have.
Help others.
Do not need to explain it anyway.
If you have a gift, then yes, freely use that gift to help others.

If you truly can heal, then heal. It does not matter what your religion. maybe it cannot be explained by science - maybe someday it will. Just do what you can do.
