OCD is part of my anxiety disorder, but I also get health anxiety/panic disorder and agoraphobia too.

I got very stressed out a few weeks ago, due to drug withdrawal and stress, my memory kept lapsing and found concentration difficult. Due to my health anxiety I believed I had the onset of dementia (at 21 I hasten to add!!). As a result I kept obsessively counting back from 100 in groups of 3 and going on Internet based memory tests, just to see if everything was OK!

My advice to you is to try not to concentrate on trying to remember what happened 30 minutes or seconds ago and it usually goes away by itself, and don't start counting like I did!

i have some mild OCD's, and they drive me nuts too..... it might not be OCDs that are causing u the problem though, it might be more down to anxiety than anything else. i had a lot of problems with stress & anxiety, and found that during that time, my short term memory was shot to hell. i've found ways of managing my anxiety, and now i've got that under better control , i feel that my memory has improved. i know that a couple of the other people who have answered this question have reccomended that u don't go for any psychiatric help, and i agree with them to a certain extent. i've been through 2 lots of therapy, and didn't find that it really helped me much. personally, i would go to the doctors if i were u, and see if they can give u some medication to help u cope with some of your sympotms. medication for illnesses like these never solves the problem that u have, but they can help u cope with some of the annoying symptoms that u suffer from , so it gives u a chance to concentrate on improving your mental health....... i know that anti depressants aren't the answer to all mental health problems, but they can help in certain circumstances, especially if u are suffering from a chemical imbalance in your brain... usually a lack of seratonin...

Comment from my flatmate who has OCD:

"That's an interesting idea - the obsessive thoughts do take up so much time I can see that would make sense. I often have memory problems but hadn't made that link before. I find it a constant source of frustration. Trying to accept the obsessiveness as part of me and not worry about it as much seems to help a bit though. Concentrate on the things you can control, rather that those that you can't"

Your words have special meaning to mental illness...
I am maximísimo of this world. go, better than the sun… in addition super humble and most modest of the girls. All mental illness from social disorders are first felt as depression . Very mild depression periods will cause mild disorders like memory impairment during and after stress. Compulsive actions and thoughts are close by . After longer periods of depression the brain chemistry is no longer changeable at will so the feeling stays on and on. Grief can make us lose our minds . But you are missing the effect of the body aura . It is an electrical energy in nature and can easily make the mind sleep or forget. Take time to study this more as everyone needs to master their own aura. Write me a letter and be very specific in your observations so the answers will be exactly as you require for the moment. On a concerned one to one study a better understanding and control can be reached.

I have ocd and also suffer memory problems. My doctor doesn't attribute it to my ocd. He says that it is because I have so much on my mind, not necessarily obsessive thoughts, but stress. That is interesting though. I will have to check it out. I know what you mean about going crazy. This disorder is crap.

I tend to forget things that happen when I am nervous (which is a lot of the time), because I'm not concentrating on what's happening I'm concentrating on being nervous.

The stress caused by the compulsions/obsessions could be a cause of your memory problems. Stress can cause forgetfulness.
