she is thawing it in the wrong placeThe fridge which is just above freezing temp. and with no air circulation. she should put it in a sink or basin of cold water overnight, or for 6 or 8 hours, preferably without the plastic wrapping. the cold water will warm up the turkey both inside and out, but the frozen turkey will keep the water cold enough to prevent bacterial growth. OrIf its time to cook thebeast, just run warm tap water inside the cavity until the giblets come out. They will still be frozen, so no bacteria buildup, but sill be soft enough to be removed. My mom used to just throw it in the sink overnight when I was a kid and let it thaw in room temp air. and we all survived( though I don't know why)

RE:
How to remove giblets from turkey?
Every year my sister thaws her turkey for almost a week and every year we cannot remove the giblets, they seem still frozen in place. We wind up cooking the turkey with giblets in place, until we can finally pry them out of the bird. Needless to say very messy dangerous business!

Run some cold water through the turkey and you should be able to ease the giblets out.

When the bird is almost completely thawed, I run cold water through the cavity to loosen the giblet sack. It's not a good idea to leave poultry out too long for fear of bacteria.

Put your hand in an pull them out. Run water through if still a little frozen. Check both ends.

I dunno if it would work, but you could try hot water. Pour it down the turkey's "butt" (probably should try over a sink) and see if you can loosen up the ice. Water shouldn't hurt the turkey, because he is still raw.
