The company says they do not have to provide signatures, however this is 6 years old. Any ideas?

I would need more details to give a good answer.

But lets just assume this is a typical "identity fraud" case. All you really need is a police report that your ID was stolen, and a signed and notarized affidavit saying it's not your debt. Most courts would then require the burden of proof be placed on the creditor to show it's your debt (they better have a signature). If they prove it, then you are in huge trouble for filing a false police report plus purgery for lying to the court.

The collection agency is bluffing you. They don't have any signature, no signed contract, no proof of purchases. They probably have nothing more then a slip of paper from the creditor saying you owe them money.

Send the collection agency a "demand to validate" letter, and demand that you get signed contracts, bills, receipts, and everything they used to calculate what they claim you owe.

If this is really a case of identity theft, file that police report, and start identity fraud procedures.

I would think that you could have posted on your credit report the information of where you reported the theft. (police offices etc.). I know you can post information yourself on the report. Doesn't change you scoring, but it does give an explanation to creditors in the event you want to purchase something larger, such as a home or car.

Good luck
