I suspect I have multiple divx codecs installed on my compouter, and i'd like to know which one WMP is using, so that i can discard the other one. Also i suspect that they're disturbing each other, since i notice choppy playback.

Go get GSpot and use it to open the videos you have. It'll tell you exactly which codec you need to play them, then you can delete any other codecs you don't need.

Ditto with Clancy; Windows Media Player don't have the functionality you are asking; I found a small utility Sherlock at http://www.corecodec.org that might do what you want.

I know performance-wise WMP is the worst among any player you encounter and installed; perhaps you can try alternative players.
