perming hair straight doesn't normally damage hair. I find that after any chemical straightening I still have to use a flat iron. Overdoing anything will damage your hair. Medium texture wavy hair can be chemically straightened and look really nice. A flat iron after will make it perfectly straight.

A perm is bad news for your hair.
I have the same type hair, wavy/curly... I blow dry it and touch up with a straightener (use thermosilk shampoo for straight days) and I use Aquage products for enhancing my curls for days I want to play up the wavy side and give my hair a chance to rest.
Stay away from the perm!!! Good luck!

Not at all! A perm doesn't damage your hair! If you don't take care of it the right way, then you have some problems. A perm actually helps your hair and make it longer.
I have real long hair. My cousins hair is longer than mine. She permed it not to long ago and its still growing. every night she goes to sleep, she wraps it. of course you have to be at the salon at least like every week (if you don't want it to break and/or fall off! lol)
If i were you, i would just perm it. If you wanna see her real hair check out her myspace. I wrote it down for you

get a perm. it damages hair - but it can always grow back. there is no straightening involved and it gets super smooth and straight when done properly. just dont get it done too often.
