My Doctor gave me this exercise to do for my sciatic nerve problem....lay on your stomach....legs straight with toes pointed outward....raise the affected side...(or do each leg one at a time if both sides are affected...which is rare)...try to raise your heel higher while pointing your toes down and out....sounds funny...but the principle is to stretch the sciatic nerve.....take something that is anti-inflammatory (like ibuprofen and the like) and alternate heat and cold compresses.....I will admit that the exercise is somewhat painful on an already painful site...but it has really relieved my pain every time I do it...I have had this problem periodically for years and it is SOME kinda painful....Good Luck...God Bless...Hope this helps!!!

Stretching out is the best thing to do for the sciatic nerve.

Lay on you back. bring your knee up at a 90 degree angle then turn the bottom half of your leg over your other leg and gently pull your leg in by your knee towards your chest till you feel the resistance.

Another thing you can do is stand backwards on a step balancing your toes on the edge of the step and go up and down.

Taking off a few pounds can help, that is if you need to take weight off.

I TOTALLY understand how you feel - I went to the doctor about 6 years ago and they did nothing. It comes and goes and right now I am having more problems and can't sleep through the night because of the pain. I take tylenol at night before going to bed - I'm thinking of trying another try w/a doctor to see if they can give me a shot of something (cortisone) to help ease the pain. Good luck!

When I suffered with this problem I went to four doctors. The pain was so bad I could not sit down, I laid on the floor or stood up. They gave me cortisone and it did not help, neither did Motrin, Aleve, Aspirin or anything else. It took six weeks and then subsided. I had to go out on disability. It was a very severe attack. Hope yours is milder. You just have to try everything and wait it out. Sorry to be so gloomy.

When one considers what is causing the problem it is most aptly treated by a doctor of Chiropractic.. If there are are problems beyond his capability, he has referrals to send you, for appropriate treatment. He is fully qualified to make a diagnosis of the condition and then render the appropriate treatment. Your condition is routine for this methodology.

When sleeping laying on your side with pillow between your legs round pillow at your head pillow one at your back one at the front to cuddle when you sleep.
Do not on your stomach it throws your hips the wrong way.
also stretch before you get out of bed side to side several times turning over on your side then the other. Then when in bed stretch and flex your toes in and out before getting up
Then side to side against a wall one side then the other.

Ty-chi exercises is what my husband recommends to his patients you can get them from the library. A good doctor would be teaching you these things.Doctor means teacher.and whoever you have gone to in the past should have been teaching you these things.
Good luck
