Absinthe is a funny thing, Allot of people do not get any effects at all, just drunk. I have drank a lot of absinthe and I feel there is definitely more to it than just being drunk, Kind of hard to explain. I have read that the phycoactive compound(wormwood, thrujone) has a accumulative effect and you have to drink it on a daily basis for a while before serious effects come. I have to say the only harm comes from the high alcohol content. Unfortunately there are allot of myths and disinformation about absinthe
You can make your own but it must be distilled, or you can have it imported, but there is a chance of it being confiscated. The best site for onfo I have found

What Is Absinthe?
Original Absinthe is a strong psychoactive and sometimes hallucinogenic herbal liquor made from a recipe of many herbs like anise, hyssop, veronica, fennel, lemon balm, angelica and wormwood. Wormwood also called "Thujone" is considered the main psychoactive ingredient in Absinthe. The higher the Thujone level the stronger the psychedelic effect. The prices of absinthe are related to the level of Thujone content. The more Thujone contained in a bottle of Absinthe the more expensive it will be. Less expensive Absinthe will have about 10mg of Thujone or less.

Most of it is based on the original and does not contain enough thujone to have any affect other than normal alcohol. It is legal in the UK again so we can get it anywhere, but most places sell the commercial french stuff which is pants, if you can always get the Czech stuff and the better sites actually list the thujone content.

As to the person who says it makes you go blind, they still believe in Santa.
