Hi, fellow Canadian! Do you have any of the large chain supermarkets in your area? They often offer specialty cooking classes one evening a week, so that might be a place to start. We have both Sobey's and Dominion where I live, and they both do that. Also check the "community events" section of your local newspaper and bulletin boards at the library and stores. You never know what you might find. Good luck with it.

Look for a community college that offers not-for-credit courses. A lot of times, community colleges offer things like cooking, cake-decorating, photography, various computer classes, dance classes, literature classes, art classes, etc. for the general community, and it's done out of a separate area than the classes the college kids take for credit.
Also, check with places like Hobby Lobby or other stores. They sometimes offer baking/cooking classes, in addition to scrapbooking or needlework or flower arranging.

Why don't you you just start trying to make them on your own? I cook often and it's all trial and error. Seriously! I would recommend going to www.allrecipes.com, picking out a couple recipes you like and reading the reviews to get some extra tips then trying it! Also you can get some great books with photographic step by step instructions if you need more visuals. It will save you money and it's fun!

buy some cook books and try simple recipes first, and work your way up until you are making some complicated ones... experiment, experiment, experiment! don't be afraid to try anything new. trial and errors can give you awesome results. if you are following a recipe and don't like some ingredients listed then substitute ones you do like. make it your own. be sure to have fun! cooking should be fun! let your friends and family be your best or worst critics and just keep learning :)

first go hang out with people you know who cook well, help cook dinners with them, look around old cookbooks of friends and pick out a few tasty (but easy to make) recipes, then gather some friends who also wanna learn how to cook, and have lunches where you cook! enjoy and good luck!!!
