I just caught wind of something which is a diet claiming to center around negative calorie food items. I don't want to go through the hassle of buying and then returning this information, and was wondering if anyone else has tried something similar, and if they are willing to share any info...of course I'd like to know what those negative calorie foods are, if they exist.

What I also wanted to say was that I've heard of things like celery which have a number of calories, but supposedly the energy it takes to eat and digest it, is greater, and thus, has an outcome of a 'negative calorie' figure.

Things like celery and lettuce, high water/mineral/ruffage base with little substance may cause a negligable calorie deficit while eating, but it only counts if you're substituting these food for high calorie/high fat foods. The idea of a diet consisting solely of lettuce and celery etc is ludicrous because they're not filling (for a reason).

This fad diet includes apples, which is ridiculous. They have a lot of calories and high glycemic index meaning the sugar goes straight to your bloodstream. Doesn't take a lot of digesting and even if it did, the muscle contractions and so forth that are involved in digestion of any individual item are probably less than 10 calories max, so only low calorie foods are likely to cause a "deficit".

Real low cal foods are great snacks, especially if they have high water or nutrition content, but as a diet it's bogus.

negative calorie diet refers to eating foods that have a smaller calorie count than the calories it takes to digest the foods.

No, you should not do a negative calorie diet because that means only eating veggies and you need to eat all of the food groups.

theres no such thing as food with 'negative' calories, i know that 4 a fact, maybe its just a diet were you eat a little, and exersize a lot, for example, you may eat like 1200 cals, and workout like 1500 cals so you end up being -300 calories. thats kinda unhealthy though i think, but its just a guess

it makes no sense at all....a calorie is a unit of energy....when it comes to eating..the lowest calorie intake possible is zero...you cant eat negative calories.....the body needs a minimum amount of calories to support vital body function....reduced calorie diets would have you eating less calories than your body needs and uses overall to lose weight......dont get caught up in the huge fad diets schemes...its a multi million dollar industry....if you're going to spend money...the best thing would be to consult a registered dietician....they can tell you the difference between whats fact and fiction....good luck

Ice cubes made from water would have a negative calorie impact because your body will burn extra calories to prevent the ice from lowering your body temperature.

well you body needs a certain amount of calories to function. calories is the energy in the food. and it gives your body energy. so unless you plan on not moving, thinking, sleeping, or having your body work, then go on it and woo!
