Basically it is just when someone wants to pass gas, they say "pull my finger" as an excuse to pass gas. Kind of like a lever or button, its and action/reaction joke.

Its a very old joke , very stupid and immature , but i guess when it was first "pulled "(ha ha get it) it probably was funny , but now every-ones heard it and its got really old.

I think the answer lies in ammonium bicarbonate. They are raising agents but the use have been discontinued as it has been found to cause cancer. Another use for it is fertilizer- a cheap fertilizer,,,,
