I was just reading that Iraqi troops (Shiites) were standing by and watching while Shiites poured kerosene on Sunnis and lit them on fire in Baghdad.

Iraq was a "total failure" from the very beginning when an idiot named George W. Bush illegally and unconstitutionally invaded that country for no justifiable reason.
There is no plan to "bring democracy" to Iraq. There are only three reasons Bush's handlers ordered him to attack Iraq:
1) The Bush family has a personal vendetta against Hussein, ever since the days of Desert Storm when George H.W. Bush was humiliated and criticized for not "finishing the job" and ousting Hussein at that time;
2) The giant U.S. military-industrial complex needed another 'war' to boost their sagging profits;
3) Dick Cheney wants all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands so that he and his Exxon-Mobil buddies can get richer and richer and richer as they feed America's dependency on foreign OIL.
The U.S. has caused the "total failure" in Iraq, and brought the country to the brink of a civil war that will go on for decades.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is building the largest embassy in the world on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad, overlooking the 'new' Iraq puppet government's headquarters (installed by Cheney).
We will be there until that country is totally torn apart, and we've managed to suck every drop of easily-accessible OIL from the nation's sands. -RKO-

Iraq is not a failure in any sense of the word. What is needed in Iraq, is a new, better defined plan of action. Lets face it folks, there is going to be a permanent American presence, even if everything is hunky dory.

The number one priority right now, is finding out where these foreign terrorists are coming from, and how they are entering Iraq. Once this is accomplished we, with the Iraqi's help, need to use whatever means necessary to put an end to it once and for all times!!!

I agree with an earlier response, which said they believed many of these killings were performed by Iranian trained militias and baathist Shiites of whom have the most to gain from instability in Iraq.

The two biggest things I have against the democrats is their defeatist mentality and liberalism. Neither of these two ideas are going to get us where we need to be as a nation and a people.

Mexico and Columbia are having the same problems as Iraq. At least the rebels in Iraq don't have an airforce like they do in Columbia. The police in New Orleans were like that during the flooding.

The U.S. has accomplished 2/3 of its goal and it's up to Iraq if they really want Iraq to not split up. I think Iraq will end up splitting up into three sections, which is what some wanted to happen in the first place.

Amazingly, I think there are things we don't know that would help us answer this question. My gut tells me most of the Sunni on shiite violence is Saddam baathists and most of the Shiite on Sunni violence is Iranian sponsored militias. Both groups want to maintain instability and fear, for their own purposes.

The big question in my mind is how much of the population really supports these factions. Are they 8% of the country? or 60%? I am not sure we know; but the answer to that is crucial to our success.

If the majority of the people still hope for our success then we can still pull victory out of the hat. As a result of the Saddam retribution between the gulf wars, many people are not sure of our staying power.

Those who advise fleeing shoud consider if the violence is this bad in our presence, what will it become if we leave prematurely, and who will end up in charge? If terrorist elements end up in charge of part or all of Iraq, what will they use their country for? terrorist camps?

You are asking a good question, with no clear answer right now.

The bottom line is that US troops are not the ones striking the match. These are Arabs killing Arabs, and it's paid for by Persians! So, why don't you point the finger where it belongs.

Why is it people can't think for themselves and realize that Syria is behind these killings! Iran is behind these killings! Russia is behind Iran, so they too share in the responsibility of these killings!

Life is cheap in the middle east and Iran and Syria are evil. If you have any doubt about what needs to be done in that region of the world then keep on reading this message until it finally sinks in.

What do you expect? They'd be called murderers if they shot the shiites to stop them....by the same people that call Iraq a failure.

Not justifying. Just explaining that you'd be bitching if they shot the shiites to stop them. That would be the only way to stop them so they didn't get burnt as well.

And show me your source that says they are standing there just watching.

Iraq was a failure in 2003 when our boots hit the ground. Let's see, and invading army comes to America - what do you think might happen?Oh, by th way, no one from Iraq ever attacked us, not on 911 or any other time, so the they hit first argument is worse that stupid.

failure? to Saddam and alQuaeda it sure is a failure.

no need to justify anything. the death toll in drug gang wars in mexico is higher than the death toll in Iraq- but then, no way to blame Bush for that- so it ain't news...
