I always recommend http://www.zales.com and http://www.kay.com They have a great collection on engagement rings.
Kay Jewelers and Zales have stores all over the country. That is, if you live in the USA.
If you are looking for cheap but beautiful rings look at http://www.bidz.com/ It is a Online Jewelery Auction.

if you want an engagement ring that looks like everybody else's go to Kay or Zales. if you want something original, go to local privately owned jewelry stores in your area. steer clear of the chain stores.

Search the websites and ads of local jewelry stores and compare prices. If you like something you see, call and ask detailed questions, like whether financing is available, guarantees, etc.
Have you ever thought of asking your parents where they got theirs?

Kmart or walmart! then you don't have to worry if something happens while wearing it since you'll be wearing it forever. Use the money for something more important like a place to live. Mine's from kmart and proud of it!
