i would tell him to pray....pray for him....but also seek help. God can work through people such as counselors and therapists.

No, of course not! And even WITH religion, you still can have all of life's problems, just because we are human and living in an imperfect state in an imperfect world. What one CAN do is pray FOR this young man, try to help him find some sort of spiritual guidance ( as ultimately this will be his only true hope for a better world) and in the here and now get him some counseling somewhere. There are many counties which offer help on a sliding fee scale if money is a problem. Good luck, and know that you have the thoughts and prayers of others!

i wouldn't just tell him to pray but I would pray with him. If we pour our hearts out to God sincerely then he'll help us. In fact, even if we don't say all the things that we need, as long as we approach him with a sincere plea for help he'll give us what we need. That may not include what we want but nontheless it will be what we need.
God also gives us people to help us and you are a show of this because your son has you and that's more that a lot of people have believe me.
Hope everything works out.

Religion solves nothing. Jesus is who the son should pray to. Religion is just a set of movements. What is important is a relationship with Jesus, and you don't have to follow any particular steps to do that. All you have to do is accept him as Lord and Savior. There are no rituals we have to follow. Many of us do because it gives us reminders of what is pleasing to God, but if we didn't do them God wouldn't abandon us. Bottom Line - Embrace Jesus and let the religion work itself out.

No, but it is a good start as long as you believe and trust in the almighty loving Father with your whole heart mind and strength. Your total self giving to Him in love, in service, and in a child like abandenment of trust. A true conversion of heart must occur Educate yourself in the one true faith which is Catholism despite what anyone tells you and live that life.
I assure you, you will not be dissappointed. However, you will struggle and suffer as Jesus did but live that out in endurence, offer it up to him as a sacrifice so He may be glorified in you.
Your worldly understandings of lifes problems will change and will no longer be a concern. Many gifts (Graces) will bestow upon you such as wisdom, understandings, patience just to name a few and there are many many more For God takes care of His loving and faithful children as a Father would.
I know this because I am living proof of it.

Religion is not there top solve all of lifes problems. It is a panacea for the senses and its main function is to stop you from caring about the problems by putting the "higher Grace" above them

actually ! thats what it says to do in the bible itself...
when sad.... Pray
When happy Sing
There are evil forces in the world that cause depression, until the "world" confesses its sins there will be NO PEACE of MIND and no Healing.
Until Christians and the people of God come out of Babylon instead of joining her as the angel declares in Rev 18:4, the plagues of the earth will continue to torment and terrorize the children of God.
and until these things are made known, the victims of depression will go on suffering because men will LIE and Cheat and steal and rape and fornicate and sodomize their way through life.

That would be impossible. Religion has been around for thousands of years and the world is still as messed up as it has ever been. Religion is like most medicines today, they may ease the symptoms but they do nothing to actually fix the problem.

GOD is very practical...He does NOT tell us,"Well--stop sinning, and good luck...BYE!"...He has a "hands-on" approach to our troubles. Step one is to ADMIT OUR FAULTS to GOD. Step two is to ask GOD for guidance through His Word--which is GOD speaking through the printed word! SELF-PITY is usually the cause of depression--thinking of the SELF instead of others. GOD'S LAW OF LOVE as codified in the 10 Commandments is all about self-LESSNESS! Giving to and thinking of others! ALL of our problems come down to the "GET FOR ME" philosophy instead of "GIVING TO OTHERS"---the way of life GOD lives! I wish you well...Changing our human nature to GOD-like nature is no easy task. But then again,it was never meant to be! We GROW from suffering and experience! So GOD gives us this brief span of existence for us to develop GODLY CHARACTER in order to become a very REAL ROYAL SON/DAUGHTER OF OUR ROYAL GOD!
