Hello Everyone! Hope this post finds you well.

I've been having trouble sleeping the past couple of months. I toss and turn at night and if that isn't bad enough, I often have unpleasant dreams. I wouldn't call them nightmares, but they're pointless sequences played in my head and I think this affects the quality of my sleep big time. Even though I 'sleep' for 6 hours, it's like I'm on "hibernation" mode...not fully asleep. [Laptop analogy]

I've been sleeping around 2-3 AM lately, mostly because I can't fall asleep earlier. I used to be an early bird but my habits have changed. I believe this may be because of stress, and lack of exercise of late...

Any advice is appreciated. I'd also like to know if this qualifies as insomnia. Thanks!!

It sounds like something is disturbing you and I think you hit the nail on the head -- stress and lack of exercise. Exercise will help you cope with the stress in your life. Maintain the same sleeping schedule, same time to bed, same time to get up. Fit in some time to exercise even if it is just a little bit. Use the herb valerian about an hour before you are going to bed. When I take three Valerian capsules I sleep well and wake up without any side effects. To go so sleep faster take melatonin, subliminal. These two aids help me. I suggest you stay away from prescription drugs to help you sleep. I hope you are better soon.

I doubt it's insomnia, because you get enough hours of sleep, though the ideal is 8. It could be considered a partial or borderline insomnia.

When I struggle sleeping, I use Unisom. I've found it to work well, just don't overuse it, because my body seems to have built somewhat of an immunity to it, and it still works but slower. You might also want to change your diet and exercise if possible. Cut down on sugar and caffeine for awhile. If it continues, go to the doctor.

If you can, get back in an exercise routine if that helps. If not, talk to your doctor about it, there are all kinds of sleep meds. If you have no insurance, check out BJ's brand sleep aid from BJ's wholesale. Be warned, the stuff is potent. I am over 200 pounds, and a half a pill leaves me groggy the next day.
