I applied for AmEx card and they sent me a letter asking me for the 3 months most recent personal bank statements to verify my total annual income. Does that mean I am approved as long as I prove to them my annual income is same as the one that I had put in my application?

No. Americna Express isn't like a traditional credit card, you have to pay the entire amount off each month, you cannot carry a balance like on Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc. They are trying to figure out how much your limit should be.
Am. Ex. is a good way to build credit if your is low right now.

Amex is horrible.

Annual fees, even for paying off your balance each month.

Go with a regular card and just pay as if it were an Amex. Then you have no interest, and no fees, and if you have an emergency and need to roll it over for a month, you won't have to pay the OUTRAGEOUS amount that Amex charges.

Good luck!

That's to run a credit check...I got an Amex card through bank of america(before they took over MBNA). Amex and discover are two hard cards to get if you don't have decent credit. I got my MC and Visa through other companies.
