Biggest bunch of ignorant answers I've seen here on these boards, that facts are over 70% of the homeless population in this country suffer from mental illness to some degree, the other 30% are transitionally homeless, someone who was living check to check and had the bottom fall out when they lost their job and couldn't find employment before being evicted from their homes, some homeless people actually do work and return to "normal" society in less than a year with the appropriate social services assisting them, as far as the Explosion of homelessness in the U.S. over the last 30 years thanks Ronnie Bonzo Reagan for cutting mental health funding to the bone in the early eighties, you other idiots need to get informed or stay the heck away from answering questions you know little about

Why aren't the homeless taking care of themselves? Because they don't care to! The illegals come here to take care of themselves and their families by working in any job they can. The homeless having been born and raised here had the same opportunities you and I had. They could go to school and work hard and make good grades and get a scholarship and go to college and get a good job. They are unmotivated for the most part. They just don't care. You can't make someone care about getting off the streets if they don't want to and many of them don't! They don't want any responsibility. They don't want to work. They are happy living on handouts. The illegals are not that way. You have to admit they are the hardest working group of people here today and with the lowest pay.
Other than educating their children how is our "compassionate" money being used on illegals? Even if they do pay taxes and MANY of them do they are not eligible for welfare, unemployment, medicaid, medicare, or social security. We are only smart to educate their children because they if we don't they will grow up to be the homeless on the streets.

That is a big part of the problem. But it seems that there is little compassion for our homeless, not even from our own citizens. There is a tendency to blame these people for their problems. What most people don't realize is that millions of under paid citizens are a paycheck away from being homeless, yet they see no need to raise the minimum wage (I guess that's partly because of illegal immigration). Laziness is the key word if you are a struggling citizen. Just ask your average middle class or rich person. Just ask an illegal, he'll tell you as he's on his way to get his handouts.

illegals have nothing to do with it. There have always been homeless. People just don't care. Since religion seems to honor the wealthy now, these people are really ++++ out of luck. And then there's the politicans. Homeless don't vote. And then there's the regular guy or girl on the street, just trying the keep their family from getting that way. I suppose were going to blame the illegals for global warming next.

That might be part of it, but there is so much pork belly spending, and unnecessary things the government spends money on they have none let for social programs.
Not all homeless are that way because they "want to be". Some just lost jobs, some are mentally ill, or have drug and alcohol problems. Some don't want help with their problems, but some do and can't afford it.

Having dealt with the homeless on many occasions, most are scum. They have no desire to be a productive member of society and "choose" to live a life of drinking behind liquor stores. They feed off the "poor me" atmosphere.
I recently watched a great show, whereas they gave a homeless man $100,000. Within three months he had blown all the money drinking/using drugs, and was sleeping next to the underpass again.

More goes to war...
it's great to see people suddenly start caring about one important issue to make a point supporting their twisted views on another. yes we need to do something about our homeless. but if we stopped spending any money either helping or hunting illegals, do you think we would start spending it on the homeless? honestly?

if the homeless took care of themselves then they would not be homeless... you have to think, why are they homeless to begin with... if they wanted a home and a job and a family then they could have it... but at some point in there life they just gave up... even if you have nothing then you can work your way back up... you just have to have goals and meet them.... in conclusion... homeless people smell bad..

It is a proven fact that 70 % of homeless want to be left alone. They want to be homeless. Tney are alcoholics and drug addicts. What is your problem? Why don't you have five or six move in with you? This question keeps being asked.

Why do we have to take care of them??? Why can't they take care of themselves?? Get jobs, pay taxes, have a home a zillion debts like everybody else.
Maybe they don't want those responsibilities and that's why they don't try to better themselves. There are enough jobs for everyone if everyone wanted to work. Some just don't.
And if we legalized the immigrants they could be paying taxes as well and help the homeless.
Have you ever seen a work camp where THEY live????
