Could be an abcess. Best to get the vet to check it out. If it is an abcess your cat will need anti-biotics and the bump may need drained.

more likely or not this is an ectoparasite such as a tick that has caused this. you may not see the tick as it falls off when full.
this will cause irritation to the site and is local to area the tick was attached. you will poss see redness, inflammation and a raised lump around the skin. fur loss can occur due to irritation and from the cat licking.my may concern of a tick is that there are no visible legs left in the skin. cancer is not a likely cause in this area! a cat bite could be possible and an infection could arise from this. if the cat is still irritated by the area, in discomfort and making it worse prevent licking and consult a vet if worried.
an abscess if prob worse case scenario.

I agree with Dark Horse. A cat bite will cause a small hole, usually two, but the tail is such a difficult part to completely fang that there might just be the one. The bump would be swelling due to pus. Sometimes another puncute wound is visible if you know where to look, so taking your cat to the vet is your best option.

We once had a cat that had a tick bit just like that -- if the cat will let you see if you can give it a gentle squeeze to see if anything comes out of it -- you could try to put a dressing on it for a while like when you can sit down with it and put just a little bit of an antiseptic cream on the dressing like germolene or similar -- it just might draw it a bit then see if you can keep it clean by bathing it in salt water-- if it does not go down or improve then either ring a vet or a very good pet shop for their opinion.

I think it could be a tick. If the cat doesn't mind try to feel around it and remove it if you can. If you cannot it may not be a tick. If it is very painful it wouldn't be a tick and she may need a visit to the vet.

It could have been bitten by another cat or animal or got it caught in briar's. Usually if the cat is eating, drinking, and keeping it clean the hair will fall out then you will see the wound clearly but it should heal with little or no treatment. If your cats behavior changes or it stops eating or drinking medical attention would be required.

If there's a bump and a hole ,and its annoying her it's time to see the vet.If it's infected it will be painful and the longer you leave it the longer it will take to clear up and all the more expensive.

Sounds like a tic may have fallen off or your cat may have been bitten by another cat.
