My daughter walked into my bedroom today after I got off work. I am a nurse and had to work late last night. She was talking to me on the bed, and I needed to change clothes but she would not leave. I rarely wear underwear and my daughter did not know that, and I was wearing my scrubs. I needed to change so I just stripped out of my scrubs, and changed into some jeans and a t-shirt. I thought I guess she is old enough to know now. Well she found out. She said "Mom, you are not wearing underwear". I told her, "I never do. It is more comfortable without them for me." It was a little embarrassing to say the least because it was also the first time she had seen me naked. When she was very young, I could walk around the house naked and did not have to be so cautious. Now it is just us girls around the house. She said that she might try going without underwear, too. I told her that it is her decision, and that she could try it. Am I wrong for letting this happen and being more open?

Thanks to all of your support. I spoke to my daughter today. She has tried going without her panties and really likes it. She gave me a hug today thanking me for helping her find out about this. I am so proud of her. She said that she wants to be more open with me. I think we are going to become so much closer now. I told her that she can borrow my clothes anytime if she needs them, and she told me I could borrow hers if I want. Not sure how I am going to look in Abercrombie or American Eagle jeans?? LOL.... anyway, I wanted to give everyone an update.

I have really enjoyed reading the comments of others. It kinda makes me think how 'old fashioned' I must be about 'some' issues. Well, you asked - so here goes -I am in agreement that you should continue to be open and honest with your daughter about life and the things of life however, I would probably have gone into the bathroom to change clothes just because I still believe that there should be some decretion and privacy between adults (mothers and fathers) and their children. My daughter is 20 and the most she has seen naked of my body is my breasts. I'm no prude, but I have always taught her that her body, like mine is private and we never walked around naked. I understand the comfortability level of not wanting to wear underwear, but I don't think that I could ever, ever do it. The types of clothing that are worn, the personal and private things that women must bear monthly, are some of the reasons that underwear, I would think, would be most important. Besides, I have always needed that comfort and support. I am from the school that a lady wore her underwear, slip, girdle, stockings at all times.....(smile) We even ironed them when I was growing up. Some things you just never break from. I can still hear my deceased mom telling me -"Make sure you have on clean underwear...you dont' want to have something happen and they rush you to the hospital and your underwear is not clean.". I am sure this all comes from the way the south was with regard to African American people. This thinking has had me purchase underwear every four-five months - starting all over - fresh - all new. Crazy huh? Still I applaude you and your daughter's relationship. In spite of my idiocryncracies - my daughter and I have a beautiful relationship. Bless you.

I use to be the one like my mother you have to wear underwear all the time then I met this guy and he ask me this question, What are they for? What purpose is a pair of underwear if you wear them or not so I would go without whenever I feel like it and I like it I dont worry about that and my daughters 18 and 16 know I sometimes will go without now my boyfriend is another story but it is perfectly OKAY to go free the is no crime in it

It is nice that you have started a conversation with your daughter that seems to be a taboo subject for others. Your decision to 'not wear' may indirectly influence your daughter's dressing habits. You may want to caution her as she may still be a bit careless in her mannerisms. After all, you do not run and play around possible with boys (in school) without underwear. Maybe you might consider encouraging your daughter to experiment this only at home until she is older and more careful with what she is doing moreso if she like wearing skirts.

I probably wouldn't have undressed in front of her, but now that the cat is out of the bag, I don't suppose there's any harm in her not wearing underwear, unless you're worried that she might stain her clothes during menstruation, or something. I go "freebird" myself, and it is definitely the most comfortable option. However, I don't undress in front of my two daughters, and sometimes I wear boxers around the house if I don't feel like getting dressed. It also depends on her chest size. Is she big enough that it would look trampy to NOT wear a bra?

I am a single mom with a 6year old daughter so I understand you. However I do not recommend wearing denim without underwear. Lots of infections.

I see nothing wrong with that. My 16-year-old son sees me all the time in my bra and panties while I'm changing clothes and he doesnt think a thing of it. I'm glad you were open and honest with your daughter.

That's nice that everything went well. You must be really proud. It is your decision. I think it's okay that your daughter chooses to not wear panties. Make sure she wears a bra, though. Email me. Put me on your IM list, too.
