my husband uncovered some junk so he could burn some trash and he uncovered 2 kittens we took the kittens home to keep them warm so after my husband is done burning today can we take them back for thier mother to find?

Yes you can. Just keep an eye out to make sure she has returned.

It would have been better if your husband had waited until the mother had finished rearing her kittens because after all, what's more important, life or burning garbage?

But seeing as he didn't, he should have left them in the vicinity for the mother to find and move herself. Seeing as he didn't do that either, it will be a miracle if the mother will come back for the kittens now.

See if your husband can at least put the kittens back and watch to see if the mother returns in a given period of time before a predator kills them. If not they are your responsibility.

Mother cat will look for her kittens only for a couple days. If it's been longer than that you will need to hand-nurse the kittens with Kitten Milk Replacement (KMR) formula. You can find this at most pet and grocery stores. Try putting the kittens back and watching for mother cat for a few hours.

if you find the mother but the kittens will probably keep coming back

that happened to my neighbor and they kept the cats becuz the mother ran off. but thats just what i would do. if you dont agree you can choose someone else. =)
