Will a $1000 reward cause teens to Just Wait until they graduate before trying alcohol, tobacco, and drugs?

Tax Moms has been asked to give 27 students $1000 each when they graduate from high school, if they stay alcohol, tobacco, and drug free all during high school.

Will this stop substance use in high school?

You shouldn't have to 'bribe' your kids to make them do the right thing. If you raised them right, you should feel confident, but most kids will screw up anyway. Besides, you will never know if they are telling the truth anyway, so that 1000 is as good as gone. I would take the grand and invest in random drug and alchohol tests. But I have been known to be too rigid.LOL.

In my opinion, rewards should be an ongoing thing. But I mean praise and kindness. You can only hope that the kids are smart enough to know that there are more rewards within themselves. I have been drug free my whole life, and nothing makes me happier than knowing that I never had to make my family feel ashamed.

This will not work. Why only 27 students? All students need to stay away from drugs, tobacco and alcohol. How about stopping these companies from advertising to kids? Where do you think they get the idea to use these things from?

Why? Why do kids need to be rewarded for doing what they are supposed to? They will just grow up thinking anything they do something they HAVE TO they need some sort of reward.
Here its a better option. how about if they stay free from alcohol, tobaco and drugs then they dont get kicked out of home once they turn 18/19?

I honestly don't think so. I think that maybe some of the kids will but from my experience with drugs and I have a lot. I think it will cause some of the kids that do drugs to lie and say that don't to get a thousand bucks to buy more drugs. After all if you are using drugs and alcohol the first step to recovery is overcoming denial and what better motive to continue denial than getting a thousand bucks for denying it?

maybe, unless they cheat. To ensure they dont are there going to be drug tests etc and tale telling. Could make things worse?
