Depends on your fertility, can take one day to months.
The actual process takes a couple of seconds for the sperm to fertilise the egg

A couple of seconds, assuming the male partner has a high sperm count, and the female partner is fertile, at the time.
A woman is at her most fertile during the four days bang in between her moenstrual cycles. Many women actually feel ovulation (the release of the egg or eggs) as a sharp pain in the left or right side, just behind the pubic bone.
Any heterosexual couple who are engaging in intercourse, the possibility of pregnancy MUST be considered -- just as any couple engaging in ANY sexual intimacy MUST consider the possibility (however remote) of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
That said, any number of factors can affect fertility.
In men: stress lowers sperm-count, as does age, as do genetics, and many medications.
In women: stress can likewise make ovulation irregular (this is a species-survival mechanism: if the woman is stressed out, chances are, it's not a safe time for a baby to be born -- this goes back to cave-hominids). Unfortunately, the more a couple stress out about concieving, the less likely they are to succeed. (That's why so many people finally have a child, after they adopt a baby).
Lowered oestrogen levels can make pregnancy impossible. There are a host of reasons for this, including age, genetics, certain illnesses, excessive thinness, and some medications.
Previous STIs, such as trichonosis, chlamydia, and pelvic inflammatory disease can make a woman infertile, or lower her fertility.
Psychology plays a HUGE part in conception. If the woman doesn't feel safe, secure, and want the baby very badly, the chances of miscarriage go up. (This, sadly, does not usually apply to teenagers, who believe they are invulnerable, and have oestrogen positively carbonating their bloodstreams).
Some abdominal/intestinal surgeries, repeated abortions, or gynaecological conditions such as oendometriosis (amazingly painful!), can also cause miscarriages, or even cause infertility in women.
Child sexual abuse can also cause irregular ovulation, or failure to become pregnant. Really early miscarriages (6 weeks) are often mistaken for late, unusually heavy periods.
Couples can spend decades, actively trying to get pregnant.
Some women can concieve just by thinking about it, during intercourse.
Most couples get pregnant because NOBODY is thinking about it. That is the saddest part.
Remember: women do not GET pregnant. It takes two. The pregnancy, or prevention thereof, is BOTH parties' responsibility. Just because it takes the bloke two minutes, and the woman has to carry and give birth to the child, does NOT make pregnancy the solely the woman's responsibility. I absolutely deplore the expressions 'fell pregnant' (pregnancy is not an illness, and one 'falls ill'), or 'got pregnant'. It would change a lot of attitudes if people said a woman 'was impregnated'. Only consenting couples should 'get pregnant'.
(Pardon the rant. I have ISSUES on this subject.)
