Very good question, Of course I can only speculate myself. to me it does seem the many Christian churches focus on his death by using crosses, rosaries, or even depictions of Christ on the cross.
And all though many will say that's where he paid for our sins, it's not true. He took on our sins in Gethsemane, and died as a final sacrifice and so he can be resurrected to concur death. to me the events surrounding the cross are more important then the cross itself. Let alone all his teachings we have.

The life AND death of Christ are both equally important. As a Chrisitan, we should focus on the unselfish love Christ showed for everyone. We should try to live our lives by following His examples. But, as Christians, we focus on Christ's death, because it was that overwhelming sacrifice that paid the price for the sins of ALL mankind, and it is only through His blood that we can be brought to salvation and a guaranteed place in Heaven. Thanks for your question. Hope this helps. God Bless!

That's exactly how I feel. People say that he died for us, but martyrs are a dime a dozen. What set him apart is that he came back. His enemies gloated over him, his fan club turned on him, and his closest friends abandoned him in his time of need. Going to heaven, he had it made. He had every right to turn his back on us and just forget the being human thing ever happened. He didn't. He came back and said, "Peace be with you."

Of course we can learn from His life. But Jesus came to die for our sins, to reconcile us to God. That was the purpose of His coming: to live among us, be one of us, be subject to temptation, but without sin and then to offer Himself as the perfect sacrifice in atonement for the sins of the world and to rise from the dead, thus destroying the kingdom of sin and death. Those facts are central to the Christian message and if you look at the sermons of the apostles as recounted in the Acts of the Apostles, that is what they focus on. And so should we!

That is not true. True Christians focus on the life course of Jesus. However, Jesus commanded his disciples to commemorate the anniversary of his death, not his birth or resurrection.

Well gadfly, you're asking a see-saw question.
His life was very important.
His death was very important.
Come down on one, the other end goes up.
Its a see-saw question.

without the shedding of there is no remission of sin. our sins are washed away by the blood of Christ, not by his life, but I agree that we should learn from his life.
