My mother made me a birthday cake when I was four years old and it was 1949 and sugar and sweets were still rationed in England. It was in the shape of a cottage with an iced roof with chocolate piping to outline the slates and coloured icing for the doors and windows. I was so upset we had to cut it but so happy to eat it!

an awesome homemade two layer coconut cake with chocolate frosting and cherries on top that i made for my mom's birthday last year. it was so moist and perfect! not to mention absolutely cute.

i'll be making baklava for christmas so maybe that's subject to change though, but i don't think anything could beat that birthday cake...

yum.
