Obviously it depends on your budget, but in general "specialist" fish restaurants in London can be rather stuffy and old-fashioned. Try Bentley's in Swallow Street W1, which has recently been revamped by the owners of the Michelin-starred Lindsay house.

The chain Fishworks is a fine fish supplier and have dining rooms. Also the Fish Shop on St John Street near Angel does particularly good fish and chips, as well as more elaborate dishes. It is surprisingly hard to get top fish and chips in London - Toffs in Musell Hill is my favourite, or the Two Broithers, also in North London.

Fish Hoek in Chiswick W4 does many unusual fish, and is a quite capable restaurant. For details see my restaurant review site www.andyhayler.com
