It varies depending on the company. You can look in Parkers.co.uk, or Topgear.co.uk, but they only tell you the group one company puts a car in. Ordinary cars can vary by 3 or 4 groups depending on the company, but sports cars can vary by up to 10 groups. Your best bet is to try your car or potential car on several different websites, not search engines but specific insurers, they will give you an idea of the insurance cost. If you use a site like the AA or any other site linked to several insurers they add so much on for their charge you have no idea which company is te cheapest.

Go into any Garage that sell's cars. Ask a Saleman to look in their Glass's Guide Book. They can look up the exact group for your BMW as long as you have the correct spec.

Search for the make and model of any vehicle you're looking at, and once its loaded there's an option for insurance groups, and it lists the vehicle by its different sub models.
