I understand that christians believe that having an abortion is murder, but why should a woman be forced to carry and raise the consequence of such a horrible crime?

I am not saying to make ALL abortion legal, but I think that 2 people (the child, and the mother) should be forced to live with the consequences of a very immoral person.

I mean how would you feel if your father had raped your mother and you were the outcome of such horrible events? Even if you were adopted? Rape is something that takes every safety a person has known and chucks it out the window, making some very unstable.

I understand you think that abortion is murder, that's all fine and dandy, but you are basically saying that because that woman was alive that day that she deserved to be raped, so that another person (who might have some great purpose in life) could be born... but they have also shown that violence begets violence, so couldn't she possibly just be birthing another rapist?

This is where I have said, you need to walk in someone elses shoes before judging that person. It's between her and GOD, not what we think. Yes, it's wrong and I could not do it, but I'm not going to hate that person or get on her case if she was raped and really wanted to go through with it.

There is room to feel compassion and sympathy for a victim of the horrible crime of rape. That having been said, a rape victim is not usually in the right state of mind to make unbiased choices that will not only affect the rest of their life but that may affect the life of another person like an innocent unborn baby.

Most rape victims want to put the experience as far from their mind as possible and they may fear that having the child will be a constant reminder of the terrible incident. That's certainly understandable but it is a short term, unwise, and in the end selfish view of their circumstances.

A rape victim should ideally be seeking to heal from their trauma and not stuff it into some dark corner of their mind. A more healthy view of the unborn child would be to think about how God can bring good out of even such a terrible deed as a rape. Instead of sacrificing the innocent child and making it pay for the crime of the rapist a mother could have the child and love the baby and be healed as the child grows and shows love to the mother.

...This does happen, but very seldom. It is often used as a red herring issue and/or an excuse to allow abortion. What should be considered is that it is the rapist in the one who should be punished (probably executed) and not the child - the child did nothing wrong.
...It is most important to consider our responsibilities before God and do them, rather than demanding and crying about our supposed "rights". The child has a right to life, and it is a pathetic thing that people can so easily and cruelly put to death the most helpless of human beings. It is equally as pathetic that many so-called pundits can recognize and work hard to protect an unborn eagle in an egg, but can't identify an unborn human baby in the womb.
...I believe abortion is a national tragedy. It is so sad that many want to do away with the unborn and the almost born, even when the baby is partially out (partial-birth abortion). This is usually done for convenience.
...I will close with a quote from Mother Theresa, "It is a poverty that a child must die so that you may live any way you wish."
...May God have mercy on our nation, and help us rid ourselves of abortion on demand.

I do not think we have the answer for all questions only God knows that. I myself would never tell another woman what is right for her. However, as a parent to a young daughter, regardless of my beliefs, my daughter will be put on birth control when it is time. This will prevent any unforseen circumstances, such as unwanted pregnancy. Further more there is a morning after pill to prevent pregnancy from happening in the event a terrible happening such as rape. Woman need to be more knowledgable about preventing unwanted pregnancy. This is the year 2006 there is an ethical approach to preventing an unwanted pregnacy.

First off, I am in NO way supporting the position back woods christians hold regarding abortion. However, if one is to consider abortion as the taking of a "life," one really can't separate a "life" produced as the result of consensual sex from a "life" produced as the result of rape and the "baby" should not become the second victim of the rape. Actually, it's the only logical and principled argument the anti-choice loonies have in their arsenal, though it directly contradicts biblical principles.

Now, your going to have to excuse me. Making the argument for the ridiculous beliefs of religious zealots is about to make my head explode!

(1) because a child should not be sentenced to death for the sin of his/her father.
(2) because pregnancy from rape is extremely rare, almost non-existent.
(3) because exception for rape is simply a giant loophole that will allow anyone to kill a child, anyplace, any time. A woman would simply have to claimed she was raped in order to get an abortion.
(4) because the last thing a woman who has been subjected to the trauma of rape needs is the additional trauma of abortion, and the lifelong guilt of having killed a child.

Since a baby is a "gift from God", and the baby should not have to suffer because the circumstances of the conception was less than ideal, it basically turns the woman into a brood mare for the state.

I feel that the woman has the right to choose, as she did not ask to become impregnated at the time, especially in such a brutal and violent manner

I can't believe that there are people out there who would have a woman suffer the pain of labour after the pain of rape.
They must never have been raped, otherwise, they would have a different view, I am sure.

However, I think the morning after pill would be most appropiate, because its the least invasive, and traumatising

To the people out there condemning those who would have abortions after rape: Have YOU ever been raped???? Ah yes, I didn't think so

I personally think that it is the womans choice.

I feel that there is no right for the government to be involed in personal matters, they surley dont want to take care of young mothers, the children of young mothers. They offer welfare to live under a poverity level, they offer medical to help you stay well but if you sick with a major illness they wont help you.
They say that there are opitions, there right there are but, that is and should only be left up to the woman!
