We got two female cats in January and then in April the nicer of the two died. The meaner cat was pretty ok with being an only child but a couple months ago we got a male kitty and the mean girl cat has been bullying him and growling and snarling at him. The kitten likes to play and will bob her head but she just growls and hisses at him. She used to get along with the old cat how can we make her get along with this one? They're both fixed.

Cats are VERY territorial and this new cat is infringing in on her territory. Give it time, she will warm up to him. When we got a new kitten after having our cat for eons, she HATED him and would swat him around like a toy. But after a month or so, they got along great. Grooming each other, playing together, etc. It was sad because after he got sick and we hadda put him down, the other cat looked for him for like two weeks meowing. It was heartbreaking.

You have to introduce them slowly,keep them separate at first, cats by nature are very territorial. Try rubbing the new kitten with a towel and make sure you rub around the neck and forehead(without hurting him), the towel will be covered with the baby's scent. Give the towel to the older cat so it can become familiar with the new ones scent. In a few days start introducing them in small visits, keeping an eye out for aggressive behavior. This method may not work if your older cat is a stubborn jerk. Depending on the cats personality, It may or may not tolerate the newbie.

Animals do the "pecking order" thing whenever a new animal is introduced to the 'pack'. Give them a couple of weeks to establish that but if the female becomes too mean you are going to have to make a choice. Some cats like being the alpha and only.

I had this same problem but luckily after a few weeks the girl cat got use to the other cat being around and realized he wasnt going anywhere. Now they are best friends and get along great.

What I used to do is that I'd lock both them in the bathroom for the night with food & water. By the next day I let them out.
I'd force them to understand the presence of the other. Eventually they relented and accepted each other.
Also holding the adult cat (with thick clothing so you don't get hurt) while approaching the kitten helps.

A female bullying a male ... NEVER HEARD OF! Are you kidding me? I'm a guy and I know the woman rules the roost! Oh, some guys will pretend they are the boss (and some woman will let them pretend) BUT THE COLD HARD FACT IS SHE IS THE BOSS! You don't need to stop your female cat ... you need to make you male cat understand the facts of life! He will sooner or later all on his own ... TRUST ME!

I have basically the same problem. One cat died now the other two always fight. I watch them until they fight when they fight I break um up....

Maybe she still has to get uesd to a new commer in house. If she still hisses after a month get rid of it.
