My two year old son has developed a red mark on the bottom of his big left toe. I seen it like two days ago and thought that it was nothing more than him squeezing his toes down to much. But then this morning I was about to put his socks on and he had a thick, hard, yellow crust surronding his entire toe. It was cracking so I peeled it and it's so hard that I couldn't peel the rest of it off and it started bleeding in certain areas. It doesn't seem to hurt him at all, but after peeling it you can still see where it's back red. I don't know what this could be and it's really worrying me. It's not on any of his other toes, but just on that one. Does anybody know what this could be? And if you have had experience with this was their a solution and what did you have to do? Please help????

That's the thing it's not on the top of his toenail it's on the back of his big toe on the skin part. Sorry that I omitted that information in my paragraph.

Your son could have stepped on something and did not know that he stepped on something there could be something in there that is causing the infection. There is no way for me to tell you exactly what it is. I can tell you that my daughter had a sliver in her big toe and we did not even know that there was one in there it was swollen and puffy and we ended up taking her to the doctors and they had to scrap the sliver out of her big toe. So I would suggest that you take your son to the doctors.

Your child probably is suffering from atopic dermatitis that is usually a precursor of infantile eczema that is common to occur among infants and older children. Try to check if any among your family had hay fever or allergy in the past. Some experts think these kids may be genetically predisposed to get eczema, which means characteristics have been passed on from parents through genes that make a child more likely to get it. Your appointment with your pediatrician would mean important so as to rule out any other skin problems.

I've never heard of a baby having athletes foot but it sounds like a fungus. I wouldn't go peeling it though. Especially if it's bleeding when you do it. That's like pulling off a scab. They sell over the counter anti-fungal medications. But it's your baby. You might want to take them to a doctor for a professional opinion.

The best thing to do is to go to the doctor! This sounds like a serious problem. If you can't see a doctor right away go to the emergency room. This pretty much sounds like an emergency

I agree with what most people are seeing here. You need to have a doctor take a look at it to make sure it doesn't need a prescription or other procedure. I wouldn't take any time trying to medicate it myself. Best to get it looked at asap. I would probably take him to Care Now, or one of those medical places that aren't "emergency", but you get in quicker than if you went to your pediatrician's office.

it sounds like hand foot and mouth disease does he go to daycare where he could be exposed to this? look up hand foot and mouth on the internet and look at the pictures there see if it doesnt look the same. I know about this because there was an outbreak at my daughters school and I looked it up making sure she didnt have any of the symptoms.

Sounds like an in-grown toe nail. It sounds bad enough to have doc look at it.
