What do you man by charity collection bags?
Any advertisements on the bags to indicate the charity?
I agree with some of the other answers- this is the time of year when the demand greatly increases for charity help. I don't recall getting any "bags" at my home (I live Ohio). We do get lots of "junk" mail solicitations.
We just throw away the junk mail. We have limited our donations to a few charities. I think some of these charities sold our name and so we are getting flooded with just about every organization around (so it seems).

The holidays are the neediest time for giving to charities. Most Food Pantrys are empty at this time of the year from helping through out the year.

Because many charities really do their donation drives at the same time of the year, when people need the help the most.

I agree with Starlet. If you have clothes/goods to give away you would be better taking them to a proper charity shop. Or alternatively selling them on ebay/car boot and giving the money to charity.
These people know that people feel more charitable at Christmas and like Starlet said they are not all bona fide charities. Check before you give.

Many people will reach out at this time of the year. Many of the poor/needy/disabled are forgotten most of the year.
I give little gifts year round to the local Veterans hospital/home. Many of the people there are from World War II and have no or very few visitors. Any time is a GREAT time to help others when it is from your heart.

It is the end of the year. The "Holiday Season" many people are in the giving mood this time of year being thankful and the such. Plus a lot of people get a Christmas Bonus and want to share it.

Look at the small print - I doubt they are all from actual charities. Police have been warning of scammers in our area who are not charity collectors but are private companies who sell the clothes xxx

If you want to help the poor, find them in your town and give them the clothes or things personally. They take them and sell them to poor people who don't have the money to buy it.
Have a yard sale and when poor people come and look through their change to try and buy an item of clotheing just say take it.
I want you to have it. That is the best way to help the poor.
