Thrust will be given to bio-diesel plantation and it will be taken up in about 3,000 hectares in the district, said the district Collector, Jagadeeshwar, here.
Addressing a review meeting on bio-diesel plantation here on Tuesday with watershed development trainees, members of multi-disciplinary teams, agricultural officers and Velugu coordinators, the Collector advised them to encourage bio-diesel plantation in waste, degraded, low productivity and fallow lands. He said that it was decided to raise bio-diesel plantation in 3,000 hectares in the district.
Mr. Jagadeeshwar said the Government was providing 90 per cent subsidy, free material and technical support, besides orientation and extension support to the farmers who come forward to raise bio-diesel plantation.
The farmers would also be provided with drip irrigation system, he added. The Collector said that raising of bio-diesel plantation is very suitable for fallow lands and the crop is also very useful to the drought-prone districts like Mahabubnagar. He requested the officials to motivate the farmers by explaining the advantages of bio-diesel plantation.
The Collector further informed that to encourage horticulture in the district, the Government is providing drip irrigation and 60 per cent subsidy. Loans from district cooperative central banks would be provided to the remaining 40 per cent, if required. He asked the officials to prepare list of horticulture farmers.
The District Water Management, project director, Balaji Babu, explained about the target achievements under bio-diesel while the assistant director of horticulture, V.V.S Sai Baba, explained the merits of bio-diesel plantation.
