Yesterday some of our neighbors down the street were having a party with very loud music (we live four houses down across the street and our walls were shaking). It didn't bother me at first, the party started at 6 PM but by 2 AM it was still going on.
So I walked outside half awake to talk to them and ask them to turn it down. When I walked outside, our other neighbors on the street who are black were already having a talk with them. The lady, a mom in her 50's, was yelling "LISTEN THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR FIVE HOURS AND IT NEEDS TO STOP!! I GOT KIDS THAT GOT SCHOOL TOMORROW!!!" So the neighbors having the party, who are Hispanic, call her racist and say if it were hip hop music, she would not be asking them to turn it down! But since it was mariachi it bothers her! She called the cops on the spot and the music was turned off.
This is in Immigration cause I dont know where else, and the house the party was at is a known drophouse. Is requesting turning music down racist?

No Way. The black neighbors should have been a little less confrontational but the hispanic neighbors were being very inconsiderate playing loud music that late. NOBODY should be playing such loud music at ANY hour between 9 pm and 7 am. In NJ I had hispanic neighbors upstairs who were playing mariachi or whatever at midnight and the next morning I politely asked them to keep it down in the future. They never did it again. I am white but I was polite about it as I would be whether my neighbors had been white themselves, hispanic OR black. It is about considering other people. Also people don't like to be yelled at whether it's in their face or on the phone. Kill them with kindness and that is more effective.

No, you were right in asking your neighbor to turn their music down. Actually it is a law and most communities have a curfew by a certain time at night that you should be inside and not have any loud tv's, music, anything after 10pm. or you can also report it to the cops. Thats what I would have done. And it is annonomous so they would not know who reported them. You were alot nicer then I would have been at 2am in the morning.
They were just being rude and have to obey by the rules of the law. No one is a racist in this situiation. Good Luck To You In The Future!!! Don't Hesitate Call The Cops!!!!

No this is not a racist problem. Its a respect issue. I would have put it into a legal area for answers you may find someone from your area that knows your local laws.
I wouldn't walk down the street and risk an altercation call the police most places have a quiet time bylaw. I know our local bylaw is 10 pm. I would suggest you stay on top of this when I was younger I threw a lot of parties and it wasn't until the police started showing up that we took it serious.(I'm Caucasian see definitely not racial problem everyone does it from time to time) The possible damage to property that can happen during these types of parties is not fair for you as the neighbors to assume. It can also bring down property values if your neighborhood becomes home to a party house.

I am Hispanic, born in the US. If I heard loud music four houses down at 2 AM, I wouldn't care what kind it was, I'd just be pissed. It's not a racial issue, it's a courtesy issue, and common courtesy dictates that you should not have a loud party at 2 AM on a school night. I wouldn't care if it were mariachi music, hip hop, or Tony Freaking Bennet.
I also wouldn't be dumb enough to walk over there, especially if the house was known for illegal activity. Next time it happens, just call the cops without warning. That late at night, somebody is going to be drunk and stupid, and somebody is going to have a gun. Let the police handle it. Your neighbors don't have to know who made the call.

This isn't a racial issue it's a respect issue.. It looks like your Hispanic neighbors don't have any respect for the others in the neighborhood.. Why is it that when a person is called out on an issue the first thing they pull(if minority) is the race card?? This country was founded by immigrants.. People need to put the race card down especially when it's their own behavior and disrespect that causes other people(the neighbors) problems...

no, this is not a racist issue & if your neighbors take offense to your complaints then so what. they are being extremely rude & inconsiderate playing music that loud & so late into the night in the first place. that type of activity is a form of hostile & aggressive behavior. their problem is that they have a chip on their shoulder. your other neighbor did the right thing by calling the cops; you have to do something & be pro-active or rude people will just keep stepping all over you.

The thing is, you arent that black woman. You dont know the motavation of her asking them to turn it down, the guy may or may not have a point. The act of asking is not racist in itself, but it is hard to say what drives people. I agree that people need to be more respectful, by not blasting their music.

It has nothing to do with race. It legal and illegal, or right, and wrong. If you say anything at all about how they should not be here illegally, your called racist. So in answer, yes you can be against illegal immigration and not be racist. The play the race card, when they have no GOOD answer, as to why are they here illegally.

Asking someone to reduce noise levels at 2 am is definitely not racist....it's just good sense. The people having the party were the only ones who made a racist statement.

No, but I would look at your local city ordinances I know for sure where I live that if you blast music too loud between 7:00 pm - 7:00 a.m. you're disrupting the peace. Just call the cops on them the next time. I just hate the type of people who play the racism card on every possible occasion. It's people like that who set back social equality of all races.
