Pugs are the best they are so lovable. Your pug will become one of your children. They are great with kids but they can get alittle wild. I mean playful but they won't harm anyone. I feed my pug Nutro they have nutro max puppy. Good food. Also they are really hard to train we have a pug that is about 9 months and he still has accidents in the house often. Pugs are the best they really are I think you will be really happy.

First you don't have to buy one right away. I would include your daughter in the process. You should both research the breed, go and see some breeders and get true first hand advice. Find one that is planning a litter and enjoy the wait and anticipation together. In the mean time learn as much as you can. Give her a picture since I am assuming this will be a Christmas gift. Good Luck. Remember, "when you chose a dog quickly you most often will pay for it in the end"

Oh, not another pug question from a future pugaholic!
I have a friend who has a male black pug, and he is as dumb as a box of rocks! She said he was totally out of control as a puppy. He has had tons of health problems; surgery on his ears, dew-claw removal as an adult (a major operation in an adult), two bladder surgeries, and lots of eye infections and injuries. He never learned his name, and went totally deaf by the age of ten.
I know someone else who has a black female whose front legs bowed severely as a puppy from weak bones.
They are a poor choice if you live where it gets hot because their noses are so squished that they have a really tough time breathing. Most airlines, even if they allow pets, won't take any flat-nosed breeds.
Still want one? And, whatever you do, PLEASE don't buy a dog at a pet store, unless you want to support puppy mills! Find a reputable breeder. Your vet can recommend people in your vicinity.

They are a LOT of work. No restfull nights anymore. Mine snorze like lumberjack. I feed mine Hills Science Diet senior cause she is 8. She has been very healthy her entire life, and the food seems to be good. She sleeps 22 1/2 hours a day, so activity time is short. They are so cute when they are puppies, but grow to be a little annoying when they get older. Try to get one that has a little of a snout. They breath better than the swuished nose pugs.

I love my pugs!!! They do make a bunch of noise, especially when they sleep because of the nose, but I have found that it is like talking with them because they snort and respond to you when you ask questions. Watch their ears because they can get quite stinky and make sure to clean in between their creases regularily. Don't use a regular collar on them, it makes it even harder for them to breathe. I have always used a harness. They cannot swim, so don't get them too close to a pool, though mine would much rather sunbathe than swim any day! They sleep all the time, but they do like to play. We have tuggies and "babies" for them to play with. They love to be loved and like any other animal, it is important that you dedicate enough time and energy to them. Best of luck!!!

get a female they tend to be less wild and dont urinate everywhere get her fixed to prevent certain cancers be aware that they shed a lot they can be little pigs when it comes to junk food its best not to feed them to much junk food. they can have dental problems so dry dog food is best and a every 6 month vet visit is good for this breed just to make sure she has no breathing problems and what not because of this breeds short snout. This is a wonderful dpg i hope i helped!!!
