You didn't do anything wrong. You were being polite and making conversation. There could be something going on with his family. Don't worry about it, maybe your daughter will tell you about it some day. The important thing is that you welcomed him into your home.

you did nothing wrong by asking. he was out of line to make a face and give a rude answer. if he had some kind of falling out with his family, he should either talk about it openly or cover up any hurt feelings all together. taking it out on you when he is a guest in your home is rude and the quickest way to ensure not being invited back.

SOunded like a perfectly pleasant and reasonable question to me. Ask your daughter if there is some sensitive family situation you should know about.

Was he happy to spen the holiday with you or did he do it for your daughter ?
Maybe he is self-centred and can't see why they need to take it in turns.
It sounds to me that no matter what you did he was prepared to hate it and certain that nothing would be as good as his family's or maybe he felt jealous that his whole family was at his mums but he wasn't either way he sounds selfish and unwilling or unable to compromise.

No, as a parent you have the right ask him anything and discussing family should be no problem whatsoever. Maybe if he had problems or have some hatred that couldve caused his remark. If he is an adult, he should be a little more easygoing since he is dating your daughter.

I have six daughters and I don't care if they like my questions in my house, eating my food,& most likely getting tail off my daughters and some not paying child support. Who the heck cares I prefer they leave the losers at home and come alone, so I can talk them into leaving them. My gosh what is wrong with my kids thier brother is not like this. And these girls all support themselves with good jobs. And believe me these guys tell their girlfriends please don't make me go, she hates me!

Sounds like he actually WANTED to be with his parents and resented the fact he had to be with you all. Not cool. Eventually that will have to get worked out if your daughter and he are to have a strong relationship.

you probably did, but that was something that you wouldn't know, so don't feel that you did something wrong, you were just being polite asking for his family, if you are still wandering what's going on with his family ask your daugther she might tell you, if she doesn't tell you respect that and let her know that you just wanted him to feel comfortable at your home.
