Becasue, even though we know we are in the company of those who love us, the past has perhaps scarred our souls, hearts, and minds enough to scare us off here in the future. I know that is my reason. Pain and heartbreak have caused me to build a "tough" facade, and over the years it has grown bigger than I ever imagined it would. It's harder to tear that wall down than build it.

That's what the new "sanctity of marriage" means, right?

My wife and I are completely open and honest about absolutely everything. We have no secrets, and completely trust one another. This does not mean we aren't human or don't make mistakes, but we understand and support each other when necessary. We talk, argue, and cherish one another each and every day. I look forward to growing old with the woman that I consider my true soul mate.

Honesty isn't difficult, and anyone that can't deal with honesty and truth probably isn't very honest with themselves in the first place.

Fear makes it so difficult.
We are afraid we will not be met with understanding and compassion.
We are afraid we will be judged, rather than heard.
We are afraid we will be fixed, rather than understood.

Many of us measure our own self-worth on how we believe others value us. This can lead us to be very sensitive to the remarks of others.
But, true self-worth is found by embracing yourself as a unique, loved, and blessed child of God. No one, regardless of their words or relationship to you can ever take that away!
Fully embracing that understanding offers you loving safety in all relationships, allowing you to be emotionally vulnerable with others because you know God's love is always with you.
