If god was real, why would there be two main branches of christianity (catholic and protestantism). even if one of them is technically more "correct," then how could god allow that almost half of the adherents to the faith (in the whole world) were following an incorrect version of christianity.

come on, you say free will, but free will is not the problem. Regardless of free will itself, it would not make sense that half of all christians were specifically "wrong".
God would not make a religion that would be completly split in two and that half of the entire earth would be the good, "true" christians and the other half might get in heaven and all, but they didn't love or serve god correctly like the "real" followers

God allows us to make our own mistakes...it's how we learn. It's called "free-will". It's called "choice". It's not His "allowing" any sort of division as if He approves of it. Jesus started one Church. That's all the Creeds of Christendom allow for: "One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic". ONE CHURCH. The other "branches" (that's a term I don't agree with, but it fits here) are man-made.

Free will. Judas was the first to betray Jesus and it is still happening today, the one that dips out of the dish with the Lord is the one who betrays him. Look at the recent problems with a few of the clergy. I like to call them our Staff Infection. If you remember correctly though the story of Solomon and his wisdom, the woman who had the child that died stole the live child and the real Mother said let the other woman have the baby for the life of the child. This is pretty much what the Catholic Church did when it recognized that there is only one baptism and if it was done right then it did not matter what denomination did it. The Catholic Church you are now seeing IS the real Mother as it continues to forge ahead in the ecumenism of all the worlds Christian religions. FOR THE LIFE OF THE CHILD

The main difference between Catholicism and Protestantism is that the Catholics believe the Pope to be the church's authority on Earth. They believe that you need to confess sins to a priest, take communion, have last rights, etc. Protestants believe that Jesus is the only authority on Earth and that you don't need to go through a priest for confession. They don't believe in the Pope's authority.

But, basically, both believe this:

Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, fully human, fully God, the Son of God.
Jesus lived a perfect life.
Jesus died on the cross in payment for the sins of everyone on the Earth.
Jesus was buried and resurrected in victory over death.
Jesus appeared to His disciples and many others before ascending into heaven.
Jesus sits at the right hand of God the Father and will return to gather His church.
Jesus is the only way to salvation, through acceptance of His free gift of atonement for our sins.

There are differing opinions on how the basics of living the Christian life are to be performed; however, the main message is that Jesus is the way, the truth, the life and that no one can come to the Father but through Him.

we are givin a choice to follow God. God does not want mindless zombies or robots. reason why ther are many religeons....well....they dont follow the Bible. lets say you have a church of 5 people. one person thinks killing is ok and the other 4 do not. they consult the Bible and clearly see that it is wrong. the one person then quits the church and starts his own religeon doing everything the same but allows killing. if we change on thing of every religeon out there it is no wonder why some are so far away from others. which one is right? i would stay with one that consults the Bible for all decisions. and if they cant show you where to find it in the Bible...you need a different church!

The word Christian means Follower of Christ. In order to be a Follower of Christ, you need to acknowledge him as the Head of the Church because that is what is taught in the Bible. The Catholic Church claims that the Pope is the head of the Church. Therefore by definition, Catholics cannot be considered Christians. The correct designations for Catholics is Paptist which means Follower of the Pope. Also, the Catholic Church claims that their religion goes all the way beck to the original group of believers and that Peter was the first Pope. However, the idea of one person being Head of the entire Church didn't come into existence until four hundred years after Peter died. Therefore, he could not have been the first Pope. In summary, Catholics are not Christians. They are using the name of Jesus as a marketing tool to promote their own religion.

Catholic-one church
Protestant-30,000
Satan is ultimately responsible for his job is to divide.
Martin Luther was right in that there needed to be a reformation.
MEN were sinning then and now but the church itself did not need reformation.
Scripture reveals the Church to be the one Jesus Christ built upon the rock of Saint Peter (Matt. 16:18). By giving Peter the keys of authority (Matt. 16:19), Jesus appointed Peter as the chief steward over His earthly kingdom (cf. Isaiah. 22:19-22). Jesus also charged Peter to be the source of strength for the rest of the apostles (Luke 22:32) and the earthly shepherd of Jesus' flock (John 21:15-17). Jesus further gave Peter, and the apostles and elders in union with him, the power to bind and loose in heaven what they bound and loosed on earth. (Matt. 16:19; 18:18). This teaching authority did not die with Peter and the apostles, but was transferred to future bishops through the laying on of hands (e.g., Acts 1:20; 6:6; 13:3; 8:18; 9:17; 1 Tim. 4:14; 5:22; 2 Tim. 1:6).

should God come and force them to believe. we are given free will. we can even have the ability to make our own religion and also follow any religion. this is what i think of most relgious organizations as they are no longer in use for the good of the people but instead the good of themselves. the Bible is all we need. what is so great about church.

The doctrine of the Nicolaitans was mentioned in the Apocalypse of John Revelation chapter 2. It is a symbolic name of a group of people that represents the hierarchy of a ruling class over the rest of the people, developing a pecking order of fleshly leadership. Jesus hates this and warns the people to repent. It is not the question of the ministries but rather in the separation of them into a hierarchy over the people. This very idea was taken over by the Protestants with their own corruption of leadership roles and coverings. The Church of Ephesus was commended for hating the deeds of the Nicolaitans. The wrong separation of the clergy from the laity is a great evil in God's sight and He hates the lust for religious power over others. There is an ungodly spiritual authority in the Church today, which is nothing more than the prideful spirit of control, manipulation, domination and intimidation and a rebellion of the rightful authority of God

The imperfection is not in God, but in us.

Because of our fallen nature, we tend to filter things through our own murky set of assumptions.

So the perfect light arrives at us in various degrees of distortion.

But that does not mean that one religion is 100% right and the others 100% wrong.

Even if there is a true religion, others can be 80% right, 60% right, 40% rights, and so on, as varying degrees of the integrity of the light gets through.

And God judges an individual on the light that he has.

God will judge a Catholic on the basis of the fullness of Christian revelation given to him, a Protestant on the basis of the partial Christian revelation that he has, a Jew on the basis of the old law, and everyone else on the basis of the partial truths in their religions and the light of their conscience.

Because God respects our freedom, He won't force us to become perfect all at once, but will only perfect us in the degree that we allow Him to do so.

During the later days of the Roman Empire a bunch of Romans got together and said let's take this Christian thing and turn it all around so than we can get some real power. So one of them said I'll be the Pope, it's sort of like a king. And you guys will be cardinals and bishops and such and all the peasants down on the bottom will have to do whatever we say. And it worked. People are so gullible.

not only protestants and catholics...

I will resume a bit of history,

Firstly Christianity was adopted by Roman Imperious, and in 1054 the Roman Imperious was divided in east and west, the west part adopted Catholic Christianity and east adopted the Orthodox Christianity. From both of them has started appearing a lot of religions, and in the case that we are talking about, the Protestants Christians religions, start appearing in XVI, in all Europe thanks to Lutero and Calvino later, British church, also distanced from Roma creating the Anglicanism, and from these three appeared all that we have nowadays...

In my opinion the faith is the same (Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox), so God doesn't matter it... I think there isn't a fatal sin that is in one of them and not in the others, all of we have the same origin, but different ways of seeing it. I'm Catholic, but I think Lutero was right while he protested against having to pay to church to your sins were forgiven...

God allows many kinds of religions not only Catholics and Protestants to exist in this world. That is God's tolerance. If a Christian, he is expected to confess Jesus is Lord and Saviour and believes Him as the Son of God who together with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit are God of Trinity. Now the question is, do we need to have extra or less than that to be saved? If we follow Jesus' claim that he is the way, the truth and the life and that no one comes to the Father in Heaven without trusting and believing in Jesus as Lord and Saviour, then we are safe and saved. I believe that kind of faith will be sufficient. Well, mind the right to be children of God, all Christians are obliged to behave like the children of God. Who then should be our example? Clearly it is Jesus as Jesus is the Son of God. Well, it is true that none is able to live in the likeness characterwise of Jesus. Perhaps the sermon on the mount will be the perfect guide of Christian living and values. Remember God is our Father and Jesus is our advocate with Holy Spirit sent to support us, believers will be able to pull through to reach God in His kingdom. We often hear those go before us say, when in trouble seek God and Jesus for His Holy Spirit to come to help to keep to His way. Why believers should be shy or ashamed to ask God as He is our Father in Heaven and Jesus our brother for support and help. Protestants' faith focuses on Jesus, and the Father he wants us to worship and with the Holy Spirit he gives us as our comforter and power to serve God. Won't you think this will rendered our pursuit or progress in our walk with God very much lighter than imagined. Done that, a Christian will be guaranteed to meet his Rapture.
