My mother was madly in love with an extremely abusive man. He beat me and my siblings badly. I have proof from the police but my mother wouldnt do anything about it. I have many witnesses and I feel like to move on with my life I need to take the step my mother never did and make this man responsible for all the traumatic things he did to us. I just really dont how to go about doing it. Is it even legal to still try and bring up a case?

Check on the statute of limitations in your state. If the police knew what the man was doing then why did they not inform social services to monitor the household?

You need to get some legal advice. If you have no money then you can start by contacting the Legal Aid Society in your state. The all have web sites.

If there are sill any minor children in the home, then you need to contact social services yourself.

One additional piece of info....even if your state has a say...five year statute....some times it means five years after the victim is no longer a minor....in other words..(example)..abuse happened when you were 10..you are now 20...statute is still in affect for 3 more years....Good Luck....God Bless

Most places have statutes of limitations. However, you may be able to something in civil court. You need to speak to an attorney. Hopefully, you aren't angry with your mom. Domestic violence is a learned behavior and is often continued by the next generation and causes lifelong fear, anger and anxiety but can be resolved with work and therapy. Go for it and God bless you.

It's hard to say. One would need to know how old you are, what the laws are in your state, if the man is still living, etc. There are many things to take into consideration. Best to see a lawyer.

Check your state's statute of limitations. Assault is normally like 2 years. Aggravated, maybe 5. Depends on your state's laws.

I'm pretty sure you can, I've read about various cases of childeren being sexually abused by camp leaders then coming out to the authorities about it 30 years later. I think that it would also apply to regular abuse as well.

I don't know what the statute of limitations is on this crime But it
should be reported anyway. It might save someone else.

no you can't because now it will be his word against yours with no evidence. And the statue of limitation ends when you are 18 or 7 years on those types of crimes.
