Why would they even want to be associated with orthodox Christians who believe in:
The Trinity (one God eternally existant in three Persons),
Salvation by Grace Through Faith Alone,
The Bible is the only word of God,
etc.

Mormons deny all of these essential orthodox Christian beliefs, so why do they want the name "Christian" which has for centuries been the name used to describe those who hold orthodox beliefs?

If the "Jesus Christ" somebody believes in is "another Jesus" from "another Gospel" (as St. Paul warned us about...) - then they cannot rightly claim "Christian" as a title.

Because as far as they are concerned the Book of Mormon in the latest word from God and it trumps all other doctrines. The claim makes sense in a wierd way: Just like the Christian Bible trumped the dogma of the OT, and the way the Muslims feel the Quar'an trumps the Bible. They consider their beliefs and dogmas to be God's orthodox beliefs and everyone else is stuck in antique ideas that don;t apply anymore.

Yeah, it's goofy. But then again, so are most religious claims. There's no more evidence to back up their claims than anyone else's, so it's all anyone's guess.

there are many religions, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, Catholicism, Christian Scientist, all identify themselves as "christian" Just about any religion that believes that Jesus was at least a little more than an imperfect human will identify itself as Christian. The beliefs of the religions I described vary greatly and though they all use the Bible (I am not 100% sure about Christian Scientists) they all have vastly different doctrines, most of which do not line up with the Bible at all.
The term Christian has, of late, come to denote a religion that encourages living as a "good" person with Jesus as the ultimate example of right living. Each of these religions believes something different about exactly who Jesus is, and the most important question is not did you live a good life, it is who do you say that Jesus is?

The mormans believe that Jesus came to the "America's" and there is some belief that Native Americans were are the first Peoples. I went to a service with a friend and it is VERY similar to a Catholic service( I am trying to Find myself, so yes I go to alot of different churches). It is about 45 minutes long and people go up to " testify" and say alot of stuff about Joe Smith. giving thanks and all. Then they are divided and spend the next two hours in bible study, men with men, women with women and children divided by ages. The bible was hardly touched only the book of morman.

They are a smiling group of people, and very family oriented. SO I have nothing bad to say, but these believers should not call themselves Christians, but Joe Smithians.

it somewhat is particularly incorrect. one million. all and sundry who accompanied Christ substitute into born people who did not will by no ability get a physique 2. all individuals are God's toddlers and equivalent in his sight. 3. interior the Bible Cain's relatives substitute into cursed after killing in a position. this would not propose that all and sundry black individuals are cursed with the aid of any ability. in basic terms because of the fact the Jews are not the only toddlers of God. interior the circumstances of the bible issues have been very literal. Mormon's are taught that if we take care of others poorly or in yet in any different case (quite because of the fact of their faith or dermis colour etc.) we at the instant are not in effective condition for heaven.

define for me what you think a christian is please. i am not a mormon not a baptist not a jew but i can learn and gain understanding from every type of religion. the king james the torah the matthew henry all translations of books written for and by human hands to keep man in check for the religious leaders of THAT time. think about that for a while and read the old testament if you dont understand it totally then your lost. go back to the greek the hebrew the ethiopic then you will find all the missed definitions of todays bible.

when they come and talk to you they ask if they can share Jesus Christ with you and then you give you a speal that doesn't even mention Jesus but mentions Joseph Smith instead. they also call themselves Christians i think because they want exceptance so in a way they are riding on the coat talls.

i hope i don't offend anyone. this is just my view.

Theyre just as bad as southern baptists, evangelicals and born agains. i think thats why so many leave christianity and its various sects.

aso why they call themselves christians i think its because of history. whoever founded that branch did believe in the holy trinity and it just stuck with them.

mind you, im lapsed catholic (I got some agnostic tendencies) so im taking a guess.

Maybe it's because they are delusional. You do well to keep ahead of the scam so generated by mindless religionists.

Who cares. One is just as ridiculous as the other. The only difference is that one cult is larger than the other.
