Integrity is doing the right thing even when it hurts. A guy is walking down the street when he finds a wallet with $200.00 in it. He's unemployed and about to be evicted from his home, his wife is ill and his children need clothing, yet he gives the wallet back with all money still inside. That is integrity.

[edit] Integrity in modern ethics
There exists, however a more formal study of the term integrity and its meaning in modern ethics. It is often understood not only as a refusal to engage in behavior that evades responsibility, but as an understanding of different modes or styles in which some discourse takes place, and which aims at the discovery of some truth.
[edit] Other Integrities
Studies of integrity also exist as it may occur in actions taken by the body, philosophy of the body itself or its wellness, the mind, its cognition and consciousness, and politics, e.g. the political virtues or views of consensus, e.g. "consent of the governed". It may also be seen in light of different philosophies of wholeness, such as commitment , authenticity or esteem, see the articles on those specific avenues of investigation.
Science
In the philosophy of science some clear differentiators exist from either of the above modes, since science concerns itself not with authority or definition but with investigation. Scientists endow the scientific method with a certain base integrity, and deviance from it or shortcuts taken or people being accepted on their word may all reduce the perceived integrity of any results – in effect science operates on the basis of a very organized distrust, in contrast to the legal method which places a very organized trust in prior judgements and precedents. In fact, science consists in general of challenging, not upholding or dogma.

integrity is the ability to do whats right even when nobody is watching you. otherwise you live life looking over your shoulder afraid of getting into trouble. why do you think people get nervous when they see a cop? if they have done nothing wrong what would it matter if they were to be pulled over? problem is few people have integrity today. this explains the high crime rates and overflowing jails.

Integrity:Adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.
Integrity is almost non existent now, because people don't consider traditional values of any value any longer. An example is someone who owns their own business, and doesn't do what they say they will do.Under their breath they say the customer will get over it.A dead beat dad is another example.Another example is someone who doesn't take responsibility for their actions when they screw up.
The list of lost integrity in our world is endless.

Integrity means to do what is right simply because it is right - to do what is good simply because it is good - regardless of personal advantage and disadvantage involved.
This is opposed to a materialistic view of man which holds that all actions are motivated by gain for self (even altruistic ones) or are driven by necessities dictated by evolutionary development.
Integrity involves a spiritual dimension in man that can transcend his own particular material individuality.
It requires that he have a soul.

keeping one's word. if I tell you I am going to do something then I need to fulfill my promise. if I don't plan on doing what I say then I need to not say anything.
