I don't think a dog that size can hurt a bird but...... Have you thought seriously about the amount of knowledge, care and attention a grey requires. It is not considered to be a good first bird. A grey is very intelligent, it is like having a permanent 5 year old child in your house that can throw temper tantrums like a 2 year old. Just simply leaving the bird in a cage may cause the bird to scream or pluck his feathers. Please consider carefully about getting a grey.
I dont think a grey will consider a tiny dog like that as a threat and try provoke the dog, they do tease bigger dogs.
They can probabyly learn to get along with supervision. Just know there is more to grey keeping than the dog issue.

There's never any guarantee that your pets will get along...... doesn't matter what kind of bird or dog you have. The thing you have to remember with a dog is get Vertical bars on the cage, its hard for them to stick their noses through, and also get a cage with bar spacing that is like 5/8" or so, especially since your dog is smaller! African Greys have a tendency to rule the roost so to speak, most likely your dog will be terrified, and the grey will know that! Greys are pretty tempermental, and from my few friends that have them, they don't have any other pets other than birds, and even then he gets pretty stressed out! Good luck!

I'm with Angie C.
My birds can hold their own with pretty much any animal they come across. (Rio's beak is wicked fast. LOL) But, that doesn't mean that I would ever in a million years leave them together unattended.
You're definitely on the right track as far as questions to ask before you invest your life and money into a Grey. Grey's are awesome, intelligent, swift, caring, and crazy fun. But, they are a lifetime of commitment and it's your job to read everything you possibly can before you get one.
Two books I can recommend:
My Parrot, My Friend by Bonnie Monroe Doane and Thomas Qualkinbush
and
Sally Blanchard's Companion Parrot Handbook (aka The Happy Bappy Fun Book)
Or, anything that Sally Blanchard has ever put out. She's a Avian God who's dedicated her life to learning everything she can possibly learn in a hands on approach with parrots.

I'm sure a bird that big can stand its own. I have a friend with a chi cross and a cockatoo and a budgie. Snickers the dog is scared of the birds (who have the run of the house too). So I think it depends on the dog and the bird. OJ the cockatoo often steals Snickers treats and food from him. If you do buy one and you have issues with them not getting along you can always crate or cage up the one who's miss behaving than they will learn.

Dog saliva is deathly toxic to birds, so be VERY careful that your dog does not LICK, BITE, or otherwise come into physical contact EVER !
When our birds are out flying, our dogs are locked up.
Why take a chance?
I hope you find a parrot that suits your situation.

They will only get along if they meet when they are small children. Like some cats and dogs get along because people let them meet when they were small.

Chihuahuas can be terribly possessive of their people! But I'm sure if you work enough at it, they will be fine with each other.
