My friend wants to get a husky, a pup, and although I am happy that she wants to do this, I am afraid she is not able to properly care for a husky, since she likes to sit around a lot.I think a small house dog would suit her better but its not really my call...I would like some insight into huskys and the dos and dont's of raising them from someone who knows what they are talking about....thank you for serious answers...

I don't think it would be a great idea for her to get a husky if she's not the outdoors kinda person and for someone who likes to sit around alot.
My father used to run a dog team here in the North, and well, husky's are outdoor dogs, you have to exercise them regularly they are not the lazy type of dogs. Also they are very energetic and if your friend is the unenergetic type then a smaller dog will suit her better, she may not be up to caring for a larger dog.

This breed typically needs a lot of attention, training, and exercise.
Visit this site:
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/
They have great info on dogs, even a test to find out what breed best suits your lifestyle. Sit down with your friend and have fun with this site! It may surprise and change her mind!
Also, do not buy from a breeder. Have her check out some local husky rescues, who will be able to answer her questions and assess whether she could provide the right home for the breed.

DO NOT get a husky if you aren't willing to give them at least 2 hours of running time a day. I have a husky and she destroys things if we go just one day without taking her out for a walk. They are awesome dogs, but they are very high maintence. They are also hard to train and very stubborn. Good luck!

We have a husky also. They do love to run, it's in their nature. But, if she lets him loose, he will likely run and not come back unless she is willing to chase him down (as I had to do). Now that he's older, we can turn him loose to run and he won't run off. We own three lots, so he has room, but we also have a fenced in area. We bought a smaller house and he's adapted to that. He loves to go for walks, too, but not when it's really hot.

My perfect question! I have a husky, there are great things about having them:
they are good family dogs
they like kids
they are active when they want to be
most of the time they arent too hyper
---But, there are a few bad things:
In the new season, they start to "Blow Out" this is when tiny pieces of undercoat poke out of their fur, causing a lot of shedding.
They also need to have clean, COLD water in the summer time, since they are thick furred dogs.
But they are so lovable, most of them....

Huskies need alot of exercise, they were bred to work. beautiful dogs, my fav actually, but if she doesn't have the time/energy to give him the attention & exercise he will need, she should go froa different breed.
