I think of a both side Union! If these countries put away all their conflicts they could probably run a union that could be better than the E.E. They are located in the best place on Earth, in the center of the world ( Medditeranean ). They want each others' land but what if they share it and not try to claim it?! Imagine what a big tourism could be managed. I think, and we also see it in history, that if only one country owns these lands then it would powerful(Roman,Byzantine,Ottoman empire)! And that's the reason why the two countries cannot develop & achieve great aims!Cause they live in a divided place. This is a great idea, a Union! A social movement could manage it, cause politics does not seem to do something.
Turkey and Greece together wouldn't be a Great Power?
With a total population of 80-100 million its like making a Germany but in the greatest place of the world. It would attract the worlwide interest! But it could also bring the 3rd World War( WWIII)!!!

What do you think?

Do not say that it never will happen! That's a sure thing! I only want to know your opinion about this if it could be possible.

That would be amazing

we once did it when we lived together

i mean before population exchange in 1922

we did it then somehow and we lived in peace

but

nowadays it is difficult cause turkey has two faces
one is Islamic and other is modern one

there are Turks that believe in union - I know so
but there are some others that are fanatic ones(some Greeks too)
they cant put up with different religion and different culture

You know,
it is written that
"People must change before Kingdoms change"

maybe someday this dream will come true..

I am the first who asked a similar question.Off course we know that this cannot happen because the new power would change the geopolitical map of the world, and they would not let us even if we wanted.Just for the history I will mention a proposal made by the Americans in the 50 tees to form a kingdom between Greece and Turkey I salute here the Turkish friends and I say that we may disagree in some issues, but that is Democracy

You say there are similarities between the two countries. Indeed there are, mostly because Greece is located close to Anatolia and Arabia so it has been influenced and mostly because of the coexistence for 500 years. But don't forget that this co-existence has not been always peaceful. Greeks have suffered massive killings , genocides (The Pontioi), destruction and a lot of pain during these years. Although everyone wants to move on some things cannot be easily forgotten. The destruction of Smyrna , the ''clearing'' of the Greeks in Constantinople , the events in Cyprus are all still recent. And you are wrong, it is only Turkey that needs Greece. Greece is a member of E.U. and has developed enormously in the last 20 years. It consists of an amazing landscape and it still owns the Aegean ,although Turkey has always an eye on it. It is Turkey that desperately needs Greece in order to join the E.U. because it is cut off from the Asian and Arab world and has enormous problems with Armenians,Kurds, and Iraq so the E.U. its the only way to survive. Turkey is a country with huge diversities. I have been to Turkey and i am surprised from the changes during the last years but still there are places that you thing are still in the 18th century.
All their tourism is 90% due to ancient Greek lands, sites, cities and monuments , in Constantinople and Asia minor. Their country has almost nothing original to demonstrate through their whole history. I have friends from Turkey, i have absolutely no problem with Turkey and i believe that we can live peacefully as neighbors and cooperate in many things but such a ''union'' as u call it could never happen . It is beyond any logical thought and possibility

U remind me the famous song of JOHN LENNON:

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I mean I agree with u and John Lennon. Not only Greece and Türkiye Union, I wish there were no country in the world.

But remember, both stupid Turkish and Greek governments couldnt have the agreement to do the organization of Euro 2008 Football Tournament together!!! So, how can we think about the union?

Despite the nationalist extremists, friendship is rising between two countries. Actually both of them don't want any lands or anything from the other. Greece supports Turkey's entrance to the EU. It will get better and better within time.

I agree with you that if we will work together with Greeks we could be good power in future on Earth...better Union then EU!!!...

BUT I DONT EGREE TO ONLY ONE SIDE TO BE OWN TO ALL LAND...WE COULD WORK TOGETHER AND EVERY COUNTRY MUST STAY IN THEIR OWN PLACE..!!!

We are locate in best place on Earth...and we both have so rich history....we could make good business, turizm, and etc here...
but for a while its seems imposible..its because of some reasons: first EU uses Greeks and some another nationalities against to Turkey...second reason is:we had some problem in past with greeks, but its all could get over because we have to think about future not past, untill we will think about past we could never develop and get better!!!
if you remember Germany and Frence was an enemy to each other before for a long time but now there are in good relationship...
I am a Turkish and I would like to be in good relationship with Greeks...we have different culture, religion, language but instead of it we are so close nationality in habits...because while of Ottoman Empire Greeks lived with Turkish society and they take lots of culture from us and we take from them too of course...thats why we are so similar in most points...but we are both dont accept that we are so assimilate to each other...:)

I have no feelings about Greeks. I use to love them. but 2 events changed all. In an international camp my roommate was Greek(first said US) living in NYC for a few years. She was very pretty, calm and cute.she was telling us that problems about Greece and CYprus and Turkey were all because of politicians, Greek&Turkish people have no problems. So what? The last day press was recording on camp activities and a minister was visitor. Guess what? That cute?! girl stood up and began to insult turkish people, minister, history about armenians and greek cypriots and many many things. We were all shocked. And then she had many speeches to journalists! I have really don't feel anything about greeks because I don't think i can endure another betrayal.

The second was survivor series on TV. I was amazed how deeply, insidious racism that. and the phrase "Byzantian tricks" will exist forever.

I agree with you my friend. I am a Greek (well my mother is Italian but) I have traveled to Turkey many times (in fact lived there for two years)
As people we are the same. Politicians have different ideologies but I agree with you, we are the same people, smae culture, same music etc. We would be stronger.
