Uninstall IE7, and go back to IE6. IE7 has lots of problems, especially if you downloaded it from Yahoo. I had a problem with my Java also, but when I got rid of IE7, the problem went away.

Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add./Remove Programs, and click on the Show updates box at the top. After everything loads, find Internet Explorer 7 and uninstall it. Restart your computer and your Java should be fine.
