Eating more frequent, smaller meals is often touted as the secret to obtaining or staying at a healthy weight. However, it's unrealistic with most people's work schedules. Most people only get one lunch break. Some get 15-minute morning and afternoon breaks as well. If that sort of person plans correctly, they could maintain such a meal schedule. Unfortunately, most people only get one 30 minute break and in that time they have to eat, make phone calls, do errands and whatever other personal things they have to do. It just isn't feasible in the working world.

Unless you're a large muscle mass competitive weight lifter there's no need to add extra protein. Protein doesn't magically turn into muscle, there has to be a "need".

The RDA for protein for the typical person is only 60 gm. That's a large chicken breast. Most Americans easily eat 150-200 gm of protein, which is unneeded. If you eat extra protein on top of what you normally eat, you'll have weight problems.

But to answer your question for people who believe in eating 6 meals a day, they are talking "mini meals". One mini-meal might be a piece of fruit, a half piece of chicken, a container of yogurt, etc.

People who choose to constantly eat throughout the day should pick small actual meals like breakfast/lunch/dinner or they risk increasing body fat.

Also eating every two-to three hours helps us keep our blood sugars regulated at a constant level. When you eat just three times a day, then your blood sugars fluctuate causing hunger pains which leads to overeating during those three meals. You don't need to consume large portions for all 5-7 meals. Your three main courses should be fairly large while your other 3-4 meals can be smaller meals such as carb/protein shake or other combination such as a banana/yogurt. It's important though that most of your meals contain good carbs, healthy protein choices along with healthy fats. If using shakes keep them to two a day. Good luck!

why would you want to do this at all?

eat right... instead.

don't worry about gaining weight.. that'll come naturally... SO... what you do is keep your body toned, eat right... exercise.. do the proper training for your muscles you wish to focus upon...

this is for those pretty boys/girls who have the time for this nonsense.

just eat right... weight train when you can on the muscles you wish to tone...

you don't have to eat that much during the day to do this...

check out this pyramid... this site will also show you how to create a pyramid that's right for what you wish to do as a goal in your body's performance.

www.mypyramid.gov

don't force the body to do things that these others are doing.. it's not forever and you must have all that time to invest.. do it naturally on your time.. your diet.

it'll work out.. because your body and your time can't do what others are telling you that you should do to be like them... it can't be.. like you said.. 'how do you we do that if we have this schedual'...

so don't do what they do.. do what you can do.

besides it'll work out better.. you won't stress the body out and mess up because you're trying to do something that you and your body aren't acustomed to nor can make the time for.

you can still reach the goal... but it can't be a goal you can't perform because of someone elses tailored lifestyle.
